Publisher's Summary

She’s forbidden. Too young, too pure, and not mine. I’ll break all the rules to be with her. She belongs to me, even if she doesn't know it yet.

He’s taboo. Too old, too experienced, and my stepfather. I’ll cross every line to be with him. He's not mine and never will be.

It’s not about the danger of what's forbidden, it’s about the pleasure we get from it.

All consequences be damned.

Age play but hidden secrets

Leia is a young teenager when she first meets Sy and she is instantly drawn towards him. Sy is a long time friend of the family and protector of her mother. Her father had been in and out of jail and Sy was there to help her mother when she gave birth to Leia. Sy hasn't seen Leia since she was a baby. He is also instantly drawn to Leia. He controls his sexual feelings towards her for several years. Leia only thinks of him in sexual ways. As the years pass Sy gives her all of her sexual firsts. She is heartbroken when he marries her mother. There seems to be a secret as to why they were married. This book deals with Sy's conflicts over his desires for Leia and trying to control them. Leia is a naive young girl when we first meet her but her conflicted feelings about Sy develops her into a stronger woman. Brax, Leia's best friend, also becomes a contender for her sexual feelings. There are secrets in this story. Some of them will be revealed but others will probably be revealed in the next books of this series. These books are out but not in audio books yet. The narrators did an excellent job of storytelling. Lacy gives voice to a young sexuality aroused and confused teenager and then a stronger more confident young woman. Aaron's deep voice presents us with a strong alpha man trying to control his sexual desires. Their narration captures the spirit of these two characterqws as well as the other characters in this story. I volunteered to receive this Audible book in exchange for an honest review. At first I was a little put off by Leia's young age compared to Sy's, although we do not yet know what is their age difference. However, C L Matthews draws the reader in the lifestyles of a culture that I don't know a lot about. She creates characters that pull you into their lives. It includes many hot scenes. This book does end in a cliffhanger. If you like age play books, you should like this one. 🎧 #AudiobookObsessionReviewer

Great Story! Great Listen🎧 Intense & Emotional!

This is my first C.L. Matthews book and I enjoyed it. It is well written and well told, the storylines are interesting and intense at times. The characters are well developed. Leia, a young girl growing up with an absentee father and a mother who is busy working. Silas, a long time friend who always looked out for Leia’s Mom comes back in the picture when Leia is 13. Silas, 100% Alpha male wanted Leia at 1st sight, but he knew it was wrong and he tried to stay away. Over the next several years, lines are drawn and lines are crossed by both Silas and Leia. Leia wants Silas or at least she thinks she does but she is also seeing her best friend Brax in a new light after feelings are exchanged. So much drama, angst & warring within happening. There are some hot scenes too. Leia gets a lot of firsts here, I can not wait to find out what else is in store for her, will it be Silas or Brax or could it possible be both? There are a lot of unanswered questions about her Mom as well. I hope the next book “Lasts” comes out on Audible soon. I listened to to the Audible edition, narrated by the talented Aaron Shedlock and Lacy Laurel. They are outstanding voice performers, they bring their characters to life and give them personality and attitude. Loved Lacy Laurel’s Spanish dialogue and how she played Leia, an angsty teen at times, as well as naive to naughty at times. And Aaron’s Silas, he had that alpha attitude by the, well you know and that accent, woohoo!! Their performances brought a lot to this great story and enhances it another level. Thanks for another great & entertaining listen🎧

Taboo Story

This was my first C.L. Matthews's book. I must admit that I chose this story because of the narrators. I went into this taboo story completely blind, and, unfortunately, I was really out of my comfort zone. I have nothing against taboo stories, and age gap, but it must be between adults. Leila, the main character was too young, and I couldn't like the story. Despite this, the narrators did a good job with the narration and accents.

Ummmm

I chose this book because of the narrators (which were fantastic) but i just couldn’t relate or fall in love with the book. Maybe taboo books aren’t for me. #audiobookobsession

Forbidden love? Maybe!

This was a wonderful story. When it started I thought it was going to be a completely forbidden romance, but there’s so much more to this story than what meets the eye. Starts off strong and ends even stronger. There is no HEA in this book and the story is continued but it’s not your typical nail biting cliffhanger so while it does leave you wanting more, it doesn’t leave you screaming at the author lol. The narration was amazing!! I would recommend this book. Audiobook Obsession

Forbidden obsession

The story is very well written. For a fairly short listen there is plenty of engaging plot that makes you want to continue with the series. The narrators do a wonderful job and are easy to listen to even when the subject matter makes you uneasy. When I first heard how old Leia was I was terrified to continue with the story. She is 13 and let me be very clear there is nothing alluring or sexy about a 13 year old and had the story not fast forward a few years I would have DNFed. I love a taboo story. I think fiction is a healthier way to explore some things but Even I have my limits. I honestly didn’t know what the age gap would be like going into this but had I known I may have missed out on what was a really enjoyable listen. I wanted to scream at everyone in the story. And give them all the unsolicited advice they could handle. I need to know the secrets and backstory between Sy, Leisa’s mom and her father. I have an uber crush on Brax. I feel very protective of Leia and need to know she is going to be okay. 🎧AudiobookObsession

TABOO

Taboo romance? Yeah Yeah, this was taboo. Was this book wrong? Yeah in so many levels I can only say I wish it was longer. The book was amazing But if you don't like taboo romance you should definitely not buy this book if you are and love age-gap and Anti-hero this book definitely for you. #audiobookObsession

taboo

This turned me inside out, and had me changing my loyalties and my mind so many times throughout the story. I really think it should be a triad/menage. They are each good for the other in different ways and seem as essential as air to breath. How could you chose?? The angst level has me taking antacids. Dante is the only one I'd kick to the curb for his absentee fathering and poor priorities and choices. He needs gone. I'm beyond confused and anxious. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrators did a great job bringing it to life.

Hold on tight!!

WOW WOW WOW!!! This is a first for me for the author and for the narrators and it is just awesome talent rolled all together to produce an amazing story! It is hot, taboo, emotional, and was over way too fast. When the book ended, I immediately downloaded the next one because I HAD to know more! Lacy Laurel and Aaron Shedlock bring their A game with their narration and I found myself just in awe of their talent. Beautiful accents and very believable age from Ms Laurel, and Aaron's voice is so incredbily sexy and smooth, I could easily listen to him read all day. A dynamo duo for sure! C.L. Matthews writing is seamless and she pulls you in right away, painting a story that makes you feel like you lived it with the characters. Bravo to all! #audiobookobsessionreviewer

Just okay

The narration was good but I just wasn't drawn into the story. It was definitely outside of my comfort zone since I usually like age gap but not girls this young. The heroine was 16 and the hero was nearly twice her age lusting after her since she was 13. I'm glad he didn't act on it when she was 13 but a part of me still felt uncomfortable since she wasn't really a woman. She was just a girl and Silas was married to her mom, so essentially he was her stepdad. Taboo, forbidden romances are definitely an acquired taste. Stepbrother I have no issue with but stepdad with a minor is where I start to feel uneasy. The one thing I did like was that the heroine Leia was a Black Latina(puerto rican to be exact) but I was confused to why she didn't speak spanish fluently, considering everyone around her in her home was bilingual except her??? I suppose it's common with people who grew up in the States instead of the mainland but she wanted to go to the U of PR but couldn't speak Spanish??How would she get around? Silas also confused me with his textbook spanish. There wasn't really any Spanish that reminded me of Puerto rican Spanish and I wasn't sure why his name was Silas. Another factor that confused me about his nationality. I guess I'm picky because I grew up with PR's and sometimes get mistaken for one since I've adopted a lot of their slang. Either way, I enjoyed the story. I just don't it compelled me enough to read further.

I don't know what else to say but, WOW!!

Wow! That's the first thing that comes to mind as I'm sitting here reeling from this sexy, dirty, naughty story. Just, wow! I am amazed how much character and story development was fit into such a short listen. Not to mention all the steam! I have to admit to feeling more than a little dirty for how hot I found some of the more taboo scenes. I really can't wait to see what comes next in this story because it ends on a major cliffhanger with so much story left to tell! The narration was fantastic and loved how the two different parts worked together!! #audiobookobsessionreviewer

Taboo

This story definitely is all about the taboo nature. I didn’t feel like I got to know the characters really just heard their angst. A teenager knowing what she wants but shouldn’t an older tuna lusting for a young girl. The writing was good but it’s really all about the taboo factor for them and not much more.

A new level of taboo

There’s so much about this book that pushes into taboo and downright forbidden. I’m left with too many mixed feeling and I’m undecided if I want rest of this series. The writing is brilliant and I cannot fault that at all. I love the cultural references and the characters on their own and even their chemistry is scorching just the story itself doesn’t lure me. There’s no real romantic connotation just plain taboo.

A beautiful yet... dark and twisted tale

Firsts is the first book in the Cape Hill Series by CL Matthews. This was the first book I had listened to from CL Matthews and I knew going in that it was going to be taboo and taboo it certainly was. I went into this book and was convinced that Silas would be my favorite, I mean who doesn’t love an alpha, domineering lead, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by Brax. I’m still team Silas and Leia, but Brax grew on me. I can’t wait to see how the relationship changes over the course of the series with both Brax and Leia and Silas and Leia. Lacy Laurel and Aaron Shedlock are AMAZING in this dual narrated book. This book is taboo, there is no way around that, but somehow, the narration was so spot on that I was even able to kind of ignore how uncomfortable I would have usually been with that big of an age difference and just live in the story. They each bought the characters to life and made some characters likable that might not have been otherwise, particularly with Silas. I can’t wait to start book 2. If you love taboo books that are equal parts dark and twisted, then this book is for you. AudiobookObsessionReviewer🎧

Taboo and forbidden doesn’t even begin to cover it

Being a taboo romance story, this book definitely pushed the boundaries. It was hot and dramatic and so filthy. I didn’t care for Silas at all. His character was so dominate and demanding, but completely unworthy. He didn’t deserve any of Leia’s firsts. Especially after he went and married her mom. I know there’s got to be some undisclosed secret that Leia’s mom and him are keeping but it still wasn’t acceptable in my eyes. I was team Braxton the entire read and was so bummed that she gave into him just enough to see how awesome they could be together but then pulled back when it mattered most. She didn’t save herself for him and I don’t think there will be any coming back from the choice she made. Overall the book kept my attention but I just didn’t love it. Firsts by C.L. Matthews is the 1st book I've listened to by this author. Definitely won't be the last. This is a taboo/age gap story and I loved it. If you like these types of story's you will love this one. A good combination of the world building and character development. Leia and Sy will take you on a fabulously twisted journey. Be warned this is a cliffhanger. The Narrators Aaron Shedlock and Lacy Laurel did a great job bringing this story to life.

Taboo firsts

Leia's sees Silas and they are attracted to each other. He knows she is too young but wants the girl he saw at a distance. He meets her and she is the girl that the woman he wanted gave birth to and she is now a teenager. This book is full of angst, and intrigue and just taboo. It draws you in and leaves you wanting more. 🎧 Audiobook Obsession

Amazing

Leia and Sy's story was explosive and volatile. He was older and friends with her mother, she was 13 an not his to take. He wanted her for so long and she will always be in love with him. As Leia got older the need and desire for each other grew. I know Sy was to old for her but I wanted them to be together. When Brax entered the picture I still wanted Sy to win in the end. This was such a hot ans sexy story I wish it lasted longer. The sweet voice of Lacy Laurel gave Leia the innocence a young girl; and the deep timber and accent of Arron Shedlock's voice was perfect for Sy. Loved every minute of it! 🎧 AudiobookObsession

Wow!

Reading Firsts is one thing but HEARING it come to life was an entirely different feeling! Lacy and Aaron did such an amazing job in bringing the story to life and put emotion into their voices when the story called for it. Being able to listen to Firsts and following along reading the ebook changed how I pictured Firsts and the characters and I’m grateful to Lacy and Aaron for doing a good job!
