Publisher's summary
Number-One New Release in Romance
The number-one New York Times best-selling author of Verity and It Ends With Us delivers another breathtaking novel with a magnetic suspense that will keep you glued to your device.
"This book deserves a whole galaxy of stars, but alas, five is all I can give." (Shades of Rebecca)
Life and a dismal last name are the only two things Beyah's parents ever gave her. After carving her path all on her own, Beyah is well on her way to bigger and better things, thanks to no one but herself. With only two short months separating her from the future she's built and the past she desperately wants to leave behind, an unexpected death leaves Beyah with no place to go during the interim.
Forced to reach out to her last resort, Beyah has to spend the remainder of her summer on a peninsula in Texas with a father she barely knows. Beyah's plan is to keep her head down and let the summer slip by seamlessly, but her new neighbor Samson throws a wrench in that plan.
Samson and Beyah have nothing in common on the surface.
She comes from a life of poverty and neglect; he comes from a family of wealth and privilege. But one thing they do have in common is that they're both drawn to sad things. Which means they're drawn to each other.
Beyah and Samson agree to stay in the shallow end of a summer fling. What Beyah doesn't realize is that a rip current is coming, and it's about to drag her heart out to sea.

I can’t with the narrator
I was excited for something new from CH because she’s one of my favorite authors but this is one of my least favorite narrators so it ruined it for me. Everything she says is breathy and dramatic....(in her breathy and overly dramatic voice).....”I said No Pepper Jack Cheese.... you cannot have another treat...(dramatic pause and sigh)....as he looks back at me with pure doggy despair in his eyes....”
Nope. Sorry. Can’t.

Another Colleen Hoover that brings out all the emotions. This story was heartbreaking and difficult but also a sweet romance all in one. I loved that this felt like two kindred spirits finding each other. Beyah was understandably guarded because of her up bringing and the way everyone treated her throughout her life. Even if it didn't seem like it in the beginning, the best thing she could have done for herself was move to Texas and find her place with her father and his family. I loved the relationship between her and her father, even when they weren't close and she was so angry, you can still feel that he loved her even if he was clueless about her life and let his guilt take over.
I felt Beyah's connection to Samson from their first real discussion. She was more open with him than anyone and he even though he was secretive and guarded, I knew he was that was for a good mostly unselfish reason. I have a huge weakness for the good guy with a hard life so Samson was my favorite kind of character. This book had me rooting for these two right all the way through. My only complaint is that the ending felt a little underwhelming. Yes I love a HEA but this just felt like after all that it should have been more than just a "and they lived happily ever after" type of ending. Maybe an epilogue would have changed my thoughts on this.
The narrator was great, I don't think I have ever heard of her but I really enjoyed her work and hope to see more of her work in my future :)
I also have to mention that since I am 100 % audio, waiting 3 months for an audiobook after it released because the audiobook is always an after thought really hurts my feel for the book because I see so much hype and comments from readers about a book before I get it listen to it that my expectations are usually higher than most authors could actually deliver. This has been my issue twice now with a Colleen Hoover book because she is so popular. (many other self published authors do simultaneous releases without an issue)

A beautiful story unfolds perfectly...
What I enjoy most about Colleen Hoover books is that she doesn't need to waste time on incorporating erotica into the material. Her characters are well-developed. The relationships she builds don't need to rely on explicit sex for the story to unfold beautifully. There is depth in her storylines, depth in her characters. She slowly unfolds a beautiful story. After reading a Colleen Hoover title, it's so hard to go back to reading a subpar books that contains more explicit sex than it does story. Kudos to Colleen for finding that perfect balance and masterfully weaving a wonderful tale that stays in the readers' mind for quite a spell.

A Slow Romance
Beyah has survived her her whole life but this summer, she’s going to start living.
It’s just so easy to read a Colleen Hoover novel. The writing is always free flowing and simple to understand. The characters have such depth! It’s easy to connect with Beyah and sympathize with her- though I highly doubt she would appreciate that. There are a few subplots and I never guessed how the summer would wrap up. But. It took way too long to get to the point. I just wanted to scream out The Thing she wouldn’t tell anyone from the very start of the book. I’m a horrible secret keeper. And I have no patience with drawn out storylines. So take that as you will- a reflection on me or the book. Overall, I would definitely recommend reading this one and forming your own opinion!
Audiobook Review Goethals had great defining aspects to each character’s voice. I could easily define who was speaking. I felt that her voice complimented Beyah. I just felt the whole book was slow and had to push the speed to 1.7, and I never listen faster than 1.4

Annoying for an older woman
I’m 49 and this book totally annoyed me. It was drenched in adolescent angst and despair, which for me, who’s in the middle of raising 3 teenaged daughters, it was difficult to get through. I kept wanting to shout SERIOUSLY Colleen Hoover? She’s written much better than this! The performance was okay, but the narrator’s voice was completely depressing and stoic. The whole thing together just wasn’t for me

Love Colleen, but not one of my favorites
I sat on this review for a little while because I wasn’t sure what to say. I still don’t, but I think its because, honestly, I forgot what the story was about after reading several other books since. Again, I love Colleen Hoover and her stories, especially her early ones. This one didn’t pull at my heart bones like I though it would. I liked the story and enjoyed it, but it didn’t stand out for me like her other works did. If I had started to read Colleen at this point, I may not have read her other stuff, simply because the genre has jaded me. I am not detoured though as not every book is going to be stellar. This narrator I have heard many many times. I have no complaints. She is good for this genre.

Beautiful, broken, complete, hopeful...
So many words to describe the way this book gave me feels. Beyah is one of my most favorite characters ever. A real life super hero who overcomes the evil in her world and came out victorious as a good human. Heartwarming, heart wrenching, beautifully tragic with a happily ever after...my favorite kind of story! I hope they make this a movie🤞🏼🎥

Another Colleen Hoover Hit
I love that you never know what to expect from a Colleen Hoover storyline but the love connection is just as deep in all of her books. There are so many layers to this story and my heart felt like it was in a vice grip most of the time from pain, sadness, hope, love and pride. Assume your favorite reading position, avoid any distractions and sink into this book.

A gorgeous story
I loved every moment of this emotional and beautiful romance! The setting, the characters, the CoHo magic touch - it all took my breath away and I literally listened & read this story in two sittings (as sleep, eat and work had to get in our way).
Currently, I’m an emotional wreck after that ending.

Good story
I enjoyed this book. It’s not the happiest of stories but moves along nicely. I laughed out loud at parts, wanted to cry at others and certain bits made me clutch my heart!!! A good all round read. I would recommend if you like a love story with a bit of angst!!

Good pace but very basic story
Very basic story with quite a lot of cringey moments. I don’t understand what the whole hype is with Colleen Hoover

Really sad and beautiful.
Just wish the performer was a little bit less mournful, otherwise great to listen to!

Maybe we all have heart bones somewhere in there.
Just as It Ends With Us captivated my thoughts with the first few paragraphs.
I have never felt so connected to a character such as Beyah, growing up with an addict mother who I saw men in and out of our place of residence, it doesn’t deserve to be called a home as it wasn’t one to begin with.
Trying to see the best in a person when life has showed you the worst of worst in people, I also relate to Beyah with the “absent father” my father was never absent but I felt like he was that wasn’t his fault but my mothers fault, at the age of 20 I finally started a relationship with him.
This book is filled with heart breaks, sadness and also the beauty of sadness, a weird saying but sadness can and is beautiful in its own way.
The attachment issues Beyah has of the so called rich boy Sampson is kinda concerning but such a relief to hear she enjoyed her life after.
I couldn’t stop listening to this as I forgot to bring my hardcopy with me, it’s draws you in and keeps you wanting to hear more, it did for me anyways.

Amazing
Colleen Hoover is one of my favourite discoveries this year. This book story keeps you captive all the way until the end. "Hopeless" is another masterpiece of CH I enjoyed.

Beautifully written
First foray into Colleen Hoover - had been avoiding due to the hype, lest the hype be unfounded but happily, it was not! Loved the way this book came together and explored the central characters as individuals moulded by circumstance and how choice is often a matter of privilege not always recognised by those who have it. Got me right in the feels, or heart bones, as it were 😊

Forgettable
I would have to say, one of Hoover’s least engaging books by far. The characters were likeable, but i did not really enjoy the plot. Overall, this was not a book to remember.

Hoover does it again
Another excellent novel by Colleen. The narattor was excellent although I did feel as though she wasn't quite suited for the tone of this book however it didn't spoil or deflect from the story. All the heart feels in this one. Highly recommend
