In this action-packed sequel to the New York Times bestselling Frostblood, Ruby must choose between her fiery homeland and the icy king who loves her.

Against all odds, Ruby has defeated the villainous Frost King and melted his powerful throne. But the bloodthirsty Minax that was trapped inside is now haunting her kingdom and everyone she loves. The answers to its demise may lie to the south in Sudesia, the land of the Firebloods, and a country that holds the secrets to Ruby's powers and past....

Despite warnings from her beloved Arcus, Ruby accompanies a roguish Fireblood named Kai to Sudesia, where she must master her control of fire in a series of trials to gain the trust of the suspicious Fireblood queen. Only then can she hope to access the knowledge that could defeat the rampaging Minax--which grows closer every moment. But as sparks fly in her moments alone with Kai, how can Ruby decide whom to trust? The fate of both kingdoms is now in her hands.

Once again Ruby is pretty dumb, but now she’s also disloyal. Nice. It’s like she’s 12 instead of 17-18yrs. She misses obvious dangers and gets pulled by her feelings in every direction to the point of ruining relationships and just kind of being unlikable. The saving graces are the male characters. They have more dimensions and better character. Thankfully the story is still a lot of fun, so it’s worth listening, but probably not buying.

Heroine a bit lame, but still a fun story

Ok, I like the book, for some reason am adapting to the narrators voice. I can say I felt a bit lost a few times on what the heck is happening but my imagination catch up with what the author was trying to describe and I can say it’s was a good book to keep me busy during my long work hours. In this book the author try’s to describe the gods and the reason for the darkness that is urging for war. It feels like Ruby is filling in love with the two main character and life is just getting even more complicated for her. There has been some clarity on her past and where she comes from. I can’t say more without spoiling the good parts. Happy reading!

Overall, I enjoyed this story. There were a few moments where things just did not ring true for me, and I had to suspend disbelief a bit further than I wanted to, in order to continue to enjoy the story. However, that could have just been me.

It's a decent follow up and has more action and plot than many 2nd books in a series.
