Publisher's summary

A larger-than-life old man with a fondness for vodka goes on an unexpected adventure in this whimsical novel — perfect for fans of Forrest Gump and A Man Called Ove.

After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he’s still in good health—and tomorrow is his hundredth birthday. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn’t interested, and he’d like a bit more control over his vodka consumption. So he decides to escape.

He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash, some unpleasant criminals, a friendly hot-dog stand operator, and an elephant.

Quirky and utterly unique, The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed out the Window and Disappeared has charmed millions of people around the world.

Delightful!

Very clever and entertaining story, and the narrator made it even more enjoyable. This book could be recommended to all readers old enough not to be offended by the mild "watch your language" incidents.
I loved it!

Fantastic!!!

This is probably my new favorite piece of literature. The prose is wonderful, the story uplifting, and it’s so ridiculous it keeps us sane. I completely recommend.

A Wonderful, 100 Year Adventure Story

I am listening again! The first hearing was filled with unusual twists and turns, surprises that were wonderfully woven into the unique tale of this centenarian's life. So much fun, I'm enjoying the narration by Steven Crossley who delivers the story's humor so well; I'm hearing new details, and continuing to laugh out loud at Allan Karlsson's improbable situations as his past and present fuse.

Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy meets Forrest Gump

Witty and entertaining. The storytelling mechanism is clever and the narration is brilliant. It is my favorite book this year.

A fun frolic of a listen!

What made the experience of listening to The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared the most enjoyable?

Witty, tongue-in-cheek, delightful! Fun for anyone, but history buffs will really enjoy the ironies and serendipity of events surrounding Carl and his gaggle of unlikely cohorts. If you know a pompous authority figure, a tough nut with a big heart, an idiot savant or a feisty elder with their own ideas about things (just to name a few) these characters will jump off the page to you!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared?

The opening scenes hooked me right away - how can you go wrong with a geriatric "jailbreak" over liquor rations?!

What does Steven Crossley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The tone and nuance of the narration were great - not overdone but with enough emphasis to make it fun when it counted!

Entertaining

Loved this story from beginning to end. Laughed out loud in several sections and learned a lot of history at the same time. Steven Crossley's performance brought the characters to life. Can't wait to listen to another Jonas Jonasson book.

Truly Enjoyable Adventure

What did you love best about The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared?

This story was engaging and fun right from the start. I looked forward to listening to find out what would happen next.

What about Steven Crossley’s performance did you like?

Mr. Crossley did an excellent job as a story teller. Monotone reader he was not. I believe he embodied in the story telling what the author was trying to convey.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I wasn't necessarily compelled to listen in one sitting but I did sit in the parking garage at work listening for a bit before heading into my office.
