Publisher's summary

In Spring Fever, the New York Times bestselling author Mary Kay Andrews delivers her delicious new escapist novel about small towns, old flames, and deep secrets

Annajane Hudgens truly believes she is over her ex-husband, Mason Bayless. They've been divorced for four years, she's engaged to a terrific new guy, and she's ready to leave the small town where she and Mason had so much history. She is so over Mason that she has absolutely no problem attending his wedding to the beautiful, intelligent, delightful Celia. But when fate intervenes and the wedding is called to a halt as the bride is literally walking down the aisle, Annajane begins to realize that maybe she's been given a second chance. Maybe everything happens for a reason. And maybe, just maybe, she wants Mason back. But there are secrets afoot in this small Southern town. On the peaceful surface of Hideaway Lake, Annajane discovers that the past is never really gone. Even if there are people determined to keep Annajane from getting what she wants, happiness might be hers for the taking, and the life she once had with Mason in this sleepy lake town might be in her future.

Critic reviews

“Kathleen McInerney perfectly presents this cheerful, funny story about second chances and true love. It's a story full of Southern charm and witty dialogue, and McInerney's Southern accents are well done. Her fake ‘sweet' voice for the villainous Ceila is enough to make one's teeth hurt, and everyone would love to have a best friend like Mason's determined sister, Pokey. A superior listen leaves one smiling.” —AudioFile Magazine

“Narrator Kathleen McInerney does the book proud, conferring subdued Southern accents on the Carolina natives and distinguishing between men and women with unobtrusive variations in key. She gives a pint-size, non-icky voice to a mystery child, Sophie, and a perky, uber-yummy Midwestern accent to the Nebraska-born manipulator, Celia. The book is a sparkler with just desserts and comeuppances dished all around.” —Newsday

“Kathleen McInerney's narration is clear, crisp, and appealing…The Southern accent she creates is effective in all its forms: soft and sweet or acerbic and cold. This entertaining, contemporary romance is perfect for light, summer listening.” —Publishers Weekly

I liked !

Great story about Anna Jane and her marriage, x-husband, and future husband. She has trial and tribulations along the way with family, friends, and acquaintances. Everyone is not as they seem and Anna Jane finds out how deceitful some people can be. Will listen again! Great narration.

Entertaining.

Spring Fever by Mary Kay Andrews was a great listen. Very entertaining and Kathleen McInerney made it even more so. I loved her voices for the characters, especially Sophie.

This is the story of Annajane who has been married to Mason and then divorced, but she continued to work for the company. She also attends the wedding of Mason to his new love Celia. And it is at that point the fun begins. Enter Sophie, Mason's daughter, a five year old and completely adorable. She causes life to become interesting.

Mason's family run a soft drink company and Annajane is reluctantly leaving to go down to be with her new love Shane. Yet there are some things happening round town that gives her pause for thought. Davis her immediate boss and Mason's brother seems to be wanting to sell the company, and what does Celia have to do with that?

Loved Annajane and her close friend Pokey, sister to Mason. Pokey is straight talking and a wonderful ally for Annajane. The two of them are the complete opposites of the two other very bitchy unlikeable women in the novel.

Mason was a very responsible and family guy, although he and Annajane had made strange choices early on. I thought he was a little slow where Celia was concerned, especially as in everything else he was discerning.

A very enjoyable listening experience. Now to look out another Mary Kay Andrews' book!

Awesome Story!

Would you listen to Spring Fever again? Why?

Mary Kay Andrews is quickly becoming my favorite author. She masters the art of storytelling with realistic and hilarious stories about women and friendship. From page one, you are enveloped into the world she creates. Upon conclusion of the story, it is almost as if you have to say goodbye to a friend. I can't get enough of her books. They are all fantastic!

Has the narrator ever heard a southern accent?

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes, Mary Kay Andrews does a good job writing light hearted rom com novels based in the south.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The mystery aspect was good. The relationship aspect to this book was weaker than Mary Kay's others.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kathleen McInerney?

No. Her male southern accents are so bad it made it hard for me to listen with out rolling my eyes and wishing I could fast forward.

Do you think Spring Fever needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Not sure.

Great chick lit!

What did you love best about Spring Fever?

MKA added a great variety in the character & story development while keeping the reader guessing & thinking you know what's next, but learning it's good to be wrong.
