Publisher's Summary

Rachel has always been a good girl--until her 30th birthday, when her best friend Darcy throws her a party. That night, after too many drinks, Rachel ends up in bed with Darcy's fiancé Dex. Rachel is horrified to discover that she has genuine feelings for Dex. She prays for fate to intervene, but when she makes a choice she discovers that the lines between right and wrong are blurry, endings aren't always neat, and you have to risk all to win true happiness.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely. A friend actually recommended it to me. I liked it better than Something Borrowed. I laughed and even cried through the book. Darcy's arrogance and outlook on life was entertaining not to mention funny.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Something Borrowed?

When Ethan and Darcey finally confessed they loved each other when walking the twins in the park.

Have you listened to any of Jennifer Wiltsie???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Once before with Something Borrowed. I loved the movie.

Who was the most memorable character of Something Borrowed and why?

Darcey. So arrogant that you love her for it.

    Story
    "Even better than the movie!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, but I think I would recommend the print version over the audiobook because I did not care for the narrator. That being said, I still really enjoyed the audiobook and found myself listening to it even when I wasn't in the car.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Something Borrowed?

I had already seen the movie, so I wasn't really surprised or moved by anything in particular. However, I did enjoy the book much better (even though I also loved the movie) because it contained character development, backstory, and slight plot differences that were not in the film.

Which character – as performed by Jennifer Wiltsie – was your favorite?

I did not care for Jennifer Wiltsies performance of this book. She made Rachel seem pouty and dull, Darcy seems whiny and shrill, and Dex seem monotone and cold. So I will base my favorite character on the story, not the narration and I would have to say Ethan.

His character is so lovable in the film that I thought I wouldn't like his minor presence in the book (friends had told me he wasn't in the first book much), but I somehow found him even more lovable despite his small role. I have heard he plays a much bigger part in the second book so I am looking forward to that.

If you could take any character from Something Borrowed out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Definitely Ethan, he is such a great guy in this story. I also found Marcus to be much more likable in the book than he was in the film.

    Any additional comments?

At first I didn't see much reason to read this book because I had seen the film, but I wanted to read the second one (I am not sure if they are turning it into a film) so I decided to go ahead and read the first one anyway. Friends told me it was a bit different than the movie, which I didn't think I would like but instead I enjoyed this version even better. I am starting book two today!

    "Yuk! Bad story"
Would you try another book from Emily Giffin and/or Jennifer Wiltsie?

    No

Has Something Borrowed turned you off from other books in this genre?

    Yes

What character would you cut from Something Borrowed?

    All of them!

    Any additional comments?

I could not finish this book - it was that bad. The characters were not likeable at all. I couldn't find any redeeming qualities in them. And the story just dragged. After 2 hours of waiting for something to happen, I gave up.

"waste of time as a full length novel!"
What disappointed you about Something Borrowed?

the characters were to caricaturish, nothing made sense, and nothing much happened!!! i kept waiting for a twist, but.. nothing!

Would you ever listen to anything by Emily Giffin again?

    probably not

Have you listened to any of Jennifer Wiltsie???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    no

You didn???t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

not really.. the narrator was good,... the story could work as a (average quality) chick flick movie but listening to a full length novel of the traitorous main character's spineless thoughts was a waste of my time

    Story
    "I guess I am a EG fan..."

First the narrator grated on my nerves. I didn't think I would ever get through this book. The storyline was good. But written to what seems a younger audience. Even though...well, my mother wouldn't have let me read it. Maybe EG was trying to speak to everyone but that narrator was almost too much to take. I KNOW Darcy is SUPPOSE to be LOUD even so..
I have purchased all of the Giffen books on Audible. Something Blue redeems Darcy but that was a tough listen also. Re: this book I actually thought the movie was better and I never say that. I love books and they cannot all be bright gems but this one is still in the treasure chest....

    "Finally some good chick-lit!"

Yeah, this isn't going to be winning a pulitzer anytime soon, but if you're at all into chick-lit, this is a good one. I enjoyed the story because I like when I find myself vacillating between agreeing and disagreeing with a character, which definitely happened here. Well worth the buy, and the narrator is great.

    Story
"dont waste your life reading this"

after reading "the heart of the matter" by Emily Giffin, i thought i would read some of her other titles. The heart of the matter was about redemption and forgiveness after an affair. But then i read "something Borrowed", and was sorely dissapointed. There were no virtuous or dignified characters in this book.
The narrator of the story is an idiotic woman that has an affair with her very best friends Fiance.Every character in this book is selfish, and self absorbed. If your looking for stories in this genre, i suggest you rent the series "sex and the city" it will be far more entertaining, and interesting with more insights. The book has many flaws---its not elequently written. Frankly---i dont see how any good can come of reading this. It encourages infidelity and glamorizes deceit. There is nothing good to take away---no insights, no happy feelings. By the art on the front cover, you would think this book is about something cute. and that its entertaining. I can assure you this book is mildly, if any amount, entertaining. Not worth the time or money to read this.

    "yuck"
What disappointed you about Something Borrowed?

barely liked the main characters and found the constant internal dialogue extremely boring. I know some people can relate to this book but I am so glad that I just can't. If a girlfriend of mine went through this drama, I really wouldn't want to hear all about it.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Something by Kate Atkinson.

Did Jennifer Wiltsie do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

    yes!

What character would you cut from Something Borrowed?

    Dex.

    Any additional comments?

    nah.

    "Underwhelming"

I can't believe I listened to this entire story waiting for it to get better. The Darcy character was too extreme, I grew entirely exhausted of hearing the name in the text over and over. Ridiculous is the word that comes to mind when describing the plot, Rachel is a sniveling second bester, Dex is too flawless, Ethan too supportive. It's so unrealistic it's unbearable.
