From the New York Times bestselling author of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo; now with a bonus conversation with Julia Whelan and Taylor Jenkins Reid, recorded exclusively for this edition.

At the age of twenty-nine, Hannah Martin still has no idea what she wants to do with her life. She has lived in six different cities and held countless meaningless jobs since graduating college. On the heels of leaving yet another city, Hannah moves back to her hometown of Los Angeles and takes up residence in her best friend Gabby’s guestroom. Shortly after getting back to town, Hannah goes out to a bar one night with Gabby and meets up with her high school boyfriend, Ethan.

Just after midnight, Gabby asks Hannah if she’s ready to go. A moment later, Ethan offers to give her a ride later if she wants to stay. Hannah hesitates. What happens if she leaves with Gabby? What happens if she leaves with Ethan?

In concurrent storylines, Hannah lives out the effects of each decision. Quickly, these parallel universes develop into radically different stories with large-scale consequences for Hannah, as well as the people around her. As the two alternate realities run their course, Maybe in Another Life raises questions about fate and true love: Is anything meant to be? How much in our life is determined by chance? And perhaps, most compellingly: Is there such a thing as a soul mate?

Hannah believes there is. And, in both worlds, she believes she’s found him.

I love TJR so I had to pick it up on release day. But this one didn’t hit the mark for me. I don’t really buy into parallel universes. But I tried to hang with the back and forth love stories in each life. But just couldn’t root for either guy because I don’t feel like we were given enough reasons to love or lust after either of them. I didn’t care for the repetitive ending.

The best part of the story was the beautiful friendship with Gabby.

Didn’t do it for me

Loved this book and each character. It entertained me from start to finish. I’m a Taylor Jenkins Reid fan for sure.

Great story

Okay, I loved the story line and the idea of two different worlds/perspectives in life, I just felt that in the audible version, I almost felt confused and lost as to which version I was suppose to be tuned in.

I understand which “side” or “universe” I was in after a few minutes into that said part, but it would be nice to have a clue/key to know we’ve swapped sides of the story.

Getting lost? …

Deeply emotional and beautiful story. The overall messages of the story were easy to connect to themes in my life.

Such a sweet story

I loved the 2 parallel stories, the idea of how even one decision can change our lives. The idea that any decision can bring good and bad with it has kept me thinking. Love stories that have the power to do that.

Great thought provoking read

The most exciting part is the constant backtracking of other scenarios that would have worked in her lifetime. Overall, I get the point, but was not nearly entertained enough by this book.

Super dull

Not a bad story, and I really enjoyed the concept of the plot. Makes you think about your life and the twists and turns of fate. I just feel like the author was stuck on 2 things: high buns and cinnamon rolls. For as many times as these are mentioned you’d think it would have some major impact on the story, but no, it’s just to make you crazy.

Easy to follow, unique concept

At times, the dialogue got a little slow, but overall a great message that makes you evaluate the decisions you’ve made in your life.

A Great Message

Spoilers! Don’t read unless you know some
main plot points. The concept was interesting but I found the storyline boring. The main character centers her story primarily around the men in her life. At no point when she finds she is pregnant does she consider abortion. Even the best friend who is supposed to “politically correct” and women power, doesn’t mention abortion as an option. Instead that friend goes on to focus on how great of a mom she’ll be and how she’ll never regret having a baby. What?! People regret having kids all the time? Their in LA, go to a clinic and get it taken care of. Weird weird character behavior. I didn’t like it.

Blah

What a storyline! So fun to see both sides of this book and follow the life on both paths!
