Publisher's Summary

David Sedaris's beloved holiday collection is new again with six more pieces, including a never before published story. Along with such favorites as the diaries of a Macy's elf and the annals of two very competitive families, are Sedaris's tales of tardy trick-or-treaters ("Us and Them"); the difficulties of explaining the Easter Bunny to the French ("Jesus Shaves"); what to do when you've been locked out in a snowstorm ("Let It Snow"); the puzzling Christmas traditions of other nations ("Six to Eight Black Men"); what Halloween at the medical examiner's looks like ("The Monster Mash"); and a barnyard secret Santa scheme gone awry ("Cow and Turkey").

No matter what your favorite holiday, you won't want to miss celebrating it with the author who has been called "one of the funniest writers alive" (Economist).

"Love this !! Sedaris flexes his writing muscles!"

Reaching through words stars not yet discovered!
His stories always end at his beginnings and visa versa! Songs to my ears and my own North Carolina experiences!

Tasteless! Not worth listening to. The stories are not funny, not touching and in poor taste.

"The good is great but a lot is recycled"

Some of this, including the classic story of Sedaris as a Macy's elf, is fantastic, and it includes a good mix of some of his darker work.

However, much of the second half of this audiobook is recycled from his other work. This includes "Six to Eight Black Men," and a story from his childhood in North Carolina. I don't fault David Sedaris for this, but I think the publisher was a little greedy.

I spent every moment of listening to this audio book hysterically laughing to the point where I almost crashed my car multiple times. This is a must read!

Great read for the holidays. I really enjoyed his essay on the differences between countries in how they celebrate Christmas.

    "Hilarious"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

    Yes

Who was your favorite character and why?

    David as the Santa Elf

Have you listened to any of David Sedaris’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes as many as I can. This is up to the same quality.

    Any additional comments?

This is a little too dark for anyone under 40 to hear.

    "Comic Genius"

Once again in this new edition Sedaris shows his creative ingenuity and why he is one of our favorite, best selling authors. The story comparing cultural Santas is sheer comic genius and side-splittingly hilarious. Just buy it.

Horrible and depressing! Of the 12 chapters, only one was amusing. the rest were poisoned by cruel and/or arrogant undertones. Worst holiday entertainment I've ever read or heard.

    "Too dark"

Sedaris has always been better at memoirs than fiction. The dark sense of humor fails to land in most of the stories included. the only ones I enjoyed are Santaland, French Class, and 6-8 Black men.

I'm open to any book as long as it is true to itself.

I really like David Sedaris, and this had some moments at the beginning, but I would not bother about the rest of the book.
