Featuring acclaimed humorist David Sedaris's unique blend of hilarity and heart, this illustrated collection of animal-themed tales is an utter delight.

Though the characters may not be human, the situations in these stories bear an uncanny resemblance to the insanity of everyday life. In "The Toad, the Turtle, and the Duck," three strangers commiserate about animal bureaucracy while waiting in a complaint line. In "Hello Kitty," a cynical feline struggles to sit through his prison-mandated AA meetings. In "The Squirrel and the Chipmunk," a pair of star-crossed lovers is separated by prejudiced family members.

With original illustrations by #1 New York Times bestselling author Ian Falconer, these stories are David Sedaris at his most observant, poignant, and surprising.

"Wickedly funny ...These are some of Sedaris's best stories ... The animals have given Sedaris's humor some new teeth: tiny and sharp, and sometimes even ready to draw blood."―The Los Angeles Times

I honestly don't know how to describe this book. It has a few laugh-out-loud moments, but mostly I found myself listening with half-smile and dumb-founded look on my face, trying to comprehend what I was hearing. Imagine David Sedaris, living as an animal.

Bizarrely compelling

I *rarely* listen to an audiobook twice. This was such a precious collection of pithy, juicy little stories that I *had* to listen to some of them multiple times. Loved the narration too, particularly Elaine Stritch. She captured the tone of the story perfectly.

Little gems!

Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk by David Sedaris surprised me in a great way. I was surprised that charming stories about animals could make me think deeply about so many different subjects. This book may be laugh out loud funny and it may also shock and sadden the reader, as well. Some of the stories have a very raw edge and for that reason, I can't recommend this book to everyone. I would strongly recommend this book to fans of the author and to anyone interested in having their conventional beliefs challenged in unique, sometimes sardonic ways. The narration performances by David Sedaris, Sian Phillips, Dylan Baker, and Elaine Stritch are outstanding and each one strengthens and expands the excellent writing in amazing, entertaining ways. Everything about this production is top notch.

I love to read, listen to or watch David Sedaris! His books keep me in stitches most of the time and I can't listen to them at work because I disturb others when I laugh out loud! This, however, was not his best.

Not his best
