For years Lou-Loc, an efficient assassin and OG of the Crip organization, did dirt. After dancing on the razor's edge, he has become weary of the street life that has consumed him during his service to his set and begins to wonder if there's a better way to make a living.

Lou-Loc and his sociopath counterpart, Gutter, leave Los Angeles for the colorful streets of New York, where Lou-Loc has dreams of becoming a writer, Gutter a kingpin.

AWESOME

Spoiler Alert!

first thing first. I already knew St. Louis was going to die. Because the people who already read this book said he died. I just didn't know how he died. heck I was angry as a granny catching her husband f#kin the mail lady. I'm reading this book like I already know he's going to died. heck why can't they just let Lou-Loc live I really liked him. and I think Satin actually change him more. plus I was so freaking happy when Martina got what she deserve lord knows I couldn't stand that grimy heifer. No good stanky thing lmao. and Sisqo got what he deserved to thank the LORD!!!

What's wrong with this narrator?

How do you mess up the main characters' name every other minute?! This is almost disgusting! ! Main character's name is Lou-Loc. the "o" gets a long sound pronunciation.
but this guy suddenly started calling him Lou-Lock! He would do it for 5 minutes, and then go back to calling him Lou-Loc.
Now if you have a producer....shouldn't they have caught that?! Also he had characters speaking in voices that didn't fit their character. The girl Satin was supposed to be a bit classy, but at times he would have her voice sounding like the ratchet females in the story. poor narrating on the simple things is what turned me off.

Worst of all K'wan

I did not read K'wan Novels in chronological order so after the Animal series and black lotus this was a let down. if I had read this first I may not have read the others, which were great.

Story flowed nicely

Where does Gangsta rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It would rank somewhere in the middle.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I always love when a book has rounded, well developed, relatable characters. This book had likeable characters that you don't always agree with. Also, the ending was a bit unpredictable.

Which character – as performed by Cary Hite – was your favorite?

Gutta...hands down!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The ending

Any additional comments?

There were some supernatural elements that were not explained. I wish they would have gone into detail and explained what was going on. I am looking forward to the next book.

The title says it all...this book IS GANGSTA!!

What did you love best about Gangsta?

Lou Loc was my favorite character in this story. He's a stand up guy, a loyal friend as well as a devoted boyfriend/fiancee' once he's given his heart.

What other book might you compare Gangsta to and why?

I guess I would compare this story to Animal, another great story by K'wan. In both stories, the central characters are driven by their loyalty to those they love, a very commendable and sexy quality. *winks*

Have you listened to any of Cary Hite’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I enjoyed listening to yet another story narrated by Cary Hite. I am familiar with his voice and he always does a good job. My only complaint would be how he pronounced "Loc" sometimes as "lock". It didn't ruin the story for me though so no harm no foul.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was really affected by a major death. This person had come so far to have their life snatched away because of a jealous, power hungry joke and a triflin' trick. I'm still mad about it!

Any additional comments?

Overall I still loved this story. Even though I listened to it as if the ending would change since I'd read the book before, I still enjoyed it. Certain parts of the book seemed like foreshadowing on what was to come and made the listen even more intriguing. Loved it!!

Couldn't get into it!

I've come to like Cary Hite as a narrator but I couldn't get into this book. I often found myself not listening and having to go back a few chapters. Eventually I just gave up. Not one of my favs by Kwan.

The narrator ruins this book

Would you consider the audio edition of Gangsta to be better than the print version?

Absolutely not!

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked Lou-Loc. I appreciated the duality of the character.

What didn’t you like about Cary Hite’s performance?

He constantly mispronounced the main characters name, he would add in weird pauses and some of the voices he created didn't match the characters.

Any additional comments?

I think it's really cheesy that twice K'wan made mention of "the popular urban author K'wan" in this his first book. That's just lame. <br/><br/>Other than that and the terrible narraration I really like this as well as several of K'wan's other books. I think from now on I'll just stick to the print versions until they replace Cary Hite.
