A Cursed Toy!

Is a horror story even worth listening to if Joe Hempel isn't narrating it?

'Deadlocked Dollhouse' was a suspenseful and fun listen about a man who struggles to provide for his family, only to bring home a gift that will ruin it all. The dollhouse in question, a thrift store find, becomes an obsession for more than one family member and as the cursed toy reels the family in, the chances of their survival becomes less and less. It's not the most unique cursed-toy story I've ever enjoyed, but it is certainly worth the listen if you like the horror genre. Also, as previously stated, it's narrated by Joe Hempel so, it's really a no brainer!

Nail Biting

This story had me on the edge of my seat, wondering if they would find a "cure" before the 7th curse occurred. I am looking forward to following this series. As usual Mr. Hempel did an excellent job and just added the little something extra to take this book to the next level

Narration was fabulous!!

I liked this audio. I always seem to find myself wanting to listen to Joe Hempel’s narration. He always tells a fantastic story! I’m not sure which I prefer, his romance side or the dark and sinister sides. He’s so strong when reading both. Just like I’d expect with Mr. Hempel, this narration was fabulous!!

The story was just ok. Some parts made me roll my eyes a bit with more humor than any kind of fear brought on by the story. Although, this author is new to me. Mixi J. Applebottom tells an interesting story and I actually like the idea behind it. But the main curse story seemed a bit weak to me. Also, I never understood how Beth never succumbed to the same behaviors. I think if I had a bit more explanations, I’d have enjoyed it to the full 5 star rating.

I received complimentary copy of this audiobook with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.

Haunted doll house

Wonderful read. Glad that everyone made it through the haunted doll house.
7 stages of haunting and each family member going through each one at different times.
I was happy when they broke the curse on their own family but the house now that’s a different story. It can be destroyed but it also rebuilds itself. Wonder if once destroyed if the parts were separated would each of those be haunted?
The narrator did a wonderful job

Can his family survive or will they too succumb tot he curse. Listen and find out if you can bear the terror and suspense it will cause you to suffer through. Joe Hempel gets 5 stars

Joe Hempel is a great ghost story narrator and I always jump on his books, but I couldn't get into this story. The premise of a cursed dollhouse was slightly interesting but the character decisions and dialogue seemed a little off or under done. I didn't finish the story, I got about 75% through it. I am still looking forward to Hempel's next narration.

Creepy!

Mike doesn't want to end up like his father, and tries his best with his girls and his wife. But it's hard when money is so tight! That's why he couldn't believe his luck when he found an amazing doll house in a second hand store and brings it home to his girls. But strange things start happening and Mike needs to find out why before it's too late!

This is the first book I've read by this author and it definitely won't be my last!! It's a pretty short read, but it's also very fast paced and very creepy. The plot was intriguing and entertaining. I liked how we see how the doll house was built and how it sets the scene for what's to come. It helped add to the tension. I also loved how we have a certain timeline and as it's being counted down, it made me read quicker to see what happens!!

It was so easy to like Mike and his family. I felt for Mike! His own childhood was horrible and all he wanted was to be a good father and husband, but he doubts himself all the time. When he sees the dollhouse, he is thrilled to be able to get something so beautiful for his girls. To see what his family goes through was heartbreaking.

In all, this was a great read and an even better introduction to this author. I will never look at a doll house the same again!

Joe Hempel is a masterful storyteller. When he is reading horror (or any other genre), he always manages to convey the creepy atmosphere perfectly and brings every book he reads to life. He is a narrator I always recommend and always will.

Be careful what you buy at thrift stores.

This was my first book by Mixi J Applebottom but will not be my last. And as usual Joe Hemple blew me away yet again. That man can read scary stories to me anytime. Neck he could read the newspaper to me and I would be enthralled.

The story is about Mark and his little family of wife and 2 children. Being an abused child he tries to be a good father but is broke most of the time. He stops in a thrift store looking for a bike seat for a bike he is fixing for one of his daughters when he spots an amazing doll house. After asking the price and being told $5 he jumps at it.

Once he gets it home his thrill of giving this doll house to his daughters turns to horror after finding out the doll house is cursed. Mark his wife and his oldest daughter all fall susceptible to the curse. There are 7 stages to the curse. Stage 7 is murder. They have to find a way to break the curse before one of them reach stage 7.
