The first novel of J. R. Ward's New York Times best-selling Black Dagger Brotherhood series features a unique take on vampire lore and heavy doses of sensuality.

Not my fav of the series but.....

What did you like best about Dark Lover? What did you like least?

I love the the characters, well, let me rephrase, I love MOST of the characters, Wrath being my LEAST fav and Dark Lover being my least fav of the series.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It was okay, kinda typical but okay, it got me interested enough to continue the series....and now I'm hooked!

What about Jim Frangione’s performance did you like?

One Word! LOVE!!! I absolutely LOVE Jim Frangione!!!

Could you see Dark Lover being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Not really, but thats just because I'm not a big Wrath fan. I always envisions Wrath looking like Nathan Explosion from that cartoon Metalocalypse.

Any additional comments?

DON'T get discouraged reading this book!!! Its just entertaining enough to get you through to the next one in the series, and they only get better, with a few exceptions, but I promise you, you will fall in love with at least 1 of these "Brothers"!!!

What a Ride!!!

The Black Dagger Brotherhood isn't for the faint of heart. These men are bigger than life...literally...and fierce.

The story begins with Darius, a member of the Brotherhood, asking the leader, Wrath, to be responsible for his half-human's daughter Beth's transition to a vampire. Beth is unaware of her parentage having never known her father and being raised in foster care. Wrath reluctantly accepts the request following the demise of Darius. Wrath and Beth's first meeting was seismic, which is an understatement.

Beth and Wrath struggle to come to terms with the intensity of their feelings for one another while the Brotherhood continue to deal with the Lesser Society, led by Mr X, whose mission is to destroy the vampire race. There is an exciting climax to both situations with unresolved issues going forward into the series.

The Black Dagger Brotherhood isn't pretty and glossy, it's exciting and and just noble enough to to go along for the ride and root them on. They have their flaws but it's what makes it interesting. I am rereading this series!!!! - Audible 20 Review Sweepstakes Entry

Love the story, but...

I really love this story and the characters. I hate when people are overly hard on the narrator, but I had a really hard time distinguishing between characters, most sounded alike. I do like the narrators style of narrating and his voice, for the most part. It's just confusing when you don't know which character is talking. And his female voices weren't feminine enough.

Great Alternate Vampire Universe

What did you like best about this story?

I was glad you didn't know what was going to happen unlike some stories. It went back and forth within the different characters' voices. Happy to read/listen to the whole series!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did laugh and cry , quite unexpected!! Great writing!
