Publisher's summary

This is audiobook #2 in the Casca Series.

He was cursed by Jesus on Golgotha, condemned to immortality and the life of a soldier, until the Second Coming. Galley slave and gladiator, warrior and vagabond, Casca travels the world living by his wits and skills as a fighting man. Waiting, knowing he cannot die, he fears discovery.

His travels take him north to the land of the Vikings and then west to the Toltecs. In Mexico atop a storm-shrouded pyramid, priests prepare to offer Casca in sacrifice. The knife plunges, but the man who cannot die rises from the altar. Reclaiming his still-beating heart, he proclaims himself the God of Death.

only the best

Would you consider the audio edition of Casca to be better than the print version?

yes,,, much better. with gene engene as the narrator, he has the canny ability to make the story come to life, without a boring moment.

What other book might you compare Casca to and why?

none so far.. other audio books.. talk lot of gibberish, and after a while you need to let your ears have a rest, but not with Barry saddler together with gene engene. there a tough act to beat.

Which character – as performed by Gene Engene – was your favorite?

panzer solder.. while i can relate to panzer solder,, while serving in the armed forces, as a armor crew man. saddler showed how war can make you embrace the concept of war with hardness and contemptuous of death, showing no pity towards there enemies, with savagery of the eastern front the atrocities both on and off the battlefield.

If you could rename Casca, what would you call it?

no.. jest leave it as it is..

Any additional comments?

i will gladly pay the dollar amount.. instead of using my credits,, if it helps Barry create more casca adventurous .

Very good story.

This is the second book in a series and Gene is one of our most favorite narrators. His delivery really makes the story come alive. While each book is part of a whole, they also can stand alone, as each story is unique and separate from the others. This particular one is highly believable and so much as the events portrayed, while fictional, are very similar to actual events that did take place. The detail of this book is very nice, and the adventures that casca goes through really make you want to listen to what happens next.

Excellent Audio Production

I read the series in the mid-1980s, and this episode was better than I remembered. The narration brings the story into full color.

Good men’s adventure story

This is a solid, craftsmanlike men’s adventure story — a great example of later pulp fiction. The performance is excellent, however, and breathes a lot of life into it.
