Call Me by Your Name first swept across the world in 2007. It is the story of a sudden and powerful romance that blossoms between an adolescent boy and a summer guest at his parents' cliffside mansion on the Italian Riviera. During the restless summer weeks, unrelenting but buried currents of obsession, fascination, and desire intensify their passion as they test the charged ground between them and verge toward the one thing both already fear they may never truly find again: total intimacy. André Aciman's critically acclaimed debut novel is a frank, unsentimental, heartrending elegy to human passion.

    "Well, the narration is excellent....."

but the story itself is tedious. Endless internal dialogue from Elio's POV, conversations that are obtuse to the point of distraction, and some pretty graphic descriptions of sex and obsessive behavior. I found it frustrating and a bit off-putting.

"Beautiful coming of age story written almost poetically"

What a romantic, beautiful coming of age story of awakening feelings and just feelings in general. I don’t know if Andre Aciman is a poet but often his writing and s so poetic and beautiful that he expresses thoughts and feelings in such a beautiful poetic way that I kept finding myself saying “I wish I could describe my feelings like that. I wish everyone could. It would be a more beautiful world. But please know that does not mean this book s sappy...IT IS NOT. It is real and tender and tough and meaningful. Personally it reminded me of how I was affected by the movie THE SUMMER OF 42. There are many obstacles in both stories but feelings don’t always stay away just because obstacles are present. And Andre Aciman deals with those obstacles and those feelings and urges in such a thoughtful, insightful way. May I also say bravo to Arnie Hammer. His voice as well as his feeling give another wonderful dimension to this book.

    "BRUH...."

GEEZUS CHRIST THIS THING TOOK MY SOUL! In seriousness though, fantastic read (or should I say listen?). It was my first audiobook and I have to say I'm loving it. I used to be a bookworm back in middle and high school but got to busy with classes, internship, part-time job, social life, etc so I had not a lot of time to sit and read. But I listened to this to and from classes as well as on the subway and I'm so glad I did! I missed books. And Im glad this is the book I chose to pick up! I heard of the movie coming out so I decided to see if it would be good by reading the book- guess who will be seeing the movie? The writing style was something Ive never experienced before. And I have never experienced any first love yet but perhaps its best because of the pain it seems to induce. But it also begs the question is if the love is worth the pain. For those in love, yes it is. I think this book really gets at things like humanity, love, and other things about the human experience which we dont truly understand ourselves, and the author was able to do the best job I have ever seen putting it into words on paper. Fantastic writing. It made me laugh, it made me fall in love with the story, and it broke my heart. But I feel a little bit more human by the end of the story. Its also the first same-sex love story Ive seen without the barriers being the main point of the story. Of course addressing barriers are important because they do indeed have an impact on the audience and have important messages to tell. However, it was an interesting novel in that it chose the main point to be love. And that was it. It focused on the love of two people and that more than anything, I think, transcends anything else and is a message within itself. Im not good at expressing myself through words so elegantly so I don't think I can do the story justice and convey my thoughts on it how I wish I could. But, if you are looking for a fantastic take on the human element, this is definitely your book!

    "Surprising Book"

I got this book because I am looking forward to seeing the film and wanted to learn the story of the film through this. Armie Hammer gave a very good mesmerizing narration throughout and I was never bored with this story. One thing did surprise me a lot was how graphic it was. Totally not what I expected and now it just makes me wonder what will be left out of the film and if they’ll do certain scenes or not. Either way I’m glad I got the book and will probably run through it again in the future.

    "As good as the book."

Unforgettable, elagiac, beautifully read by Armie Hammer. Strangely, he mispronounces two French words, 'mot' and 'Menton', otherwise perfect. cannot recommend highly enough.

    "Execrable! Will return for refund."

Was swayed by the many positive reviews but found this tome unbearable. Tedious, staggeringly self indulgent, prolix and yearningly turgid. Dreadful. Characters unsympathetic and twattish. Writing is Shockingly bad compared to lyrically beautiful "the line of beauty" which tackles very similar issues at a very similar point in 20th century history, the difference in literary quality is starkly shocking - this book cringeful, the other soberingly beautiful.

The most boring narrative that I have ever heard,so bad I had to give up on the book even before I finished the first chapter, such a shame as I was looking forward to this book. Johnny one tone comes to mind, Don't waste either money or a credit on this book, boring voice, boring, boring, boring
