Publisher's summary

In Montana Territory, one name above all others strikes fear and hatred in the hearts of the Crow Indians - John Jackson, better known these days as Liver-Eating Jackson. Consumed by grief and rage, the mountain man has brutally killed 10 braves so far in his one-man war of vengeance against the Crow, who murdered his beloved wife. Smoke Jensen knows Jackson by another name - "friend." He's not sure to what extent Jackson's exploits are true - devastating loss and frontier savagery have certainly driven lesser men mad. While doing some trapping in the territory, Smoke hears that 20 of the Crow's most fearsome warriors have banded together to hunt down their nemesis. Without a second thought, he rushes to his old friend's aid. But even with Smoke Jensen at his side, the fierce and fearless Liver-Eating Jackson may not be able to beat the odds this time.

Interesting to say the least.

does not follow all the other books in the series, but still good. Good choice for maybe a stand alone book. the discrepancies in the beginning were a little annoying but I'm not the writer so what can I do.

the discrepancies from the other books.

why would Mr johnstone write such variations of the smoke Jensen story. while I love these books I'm a little disappointed by the differences.

Butchery of the Mountain Man

This is another good book about Smoke. In This book Smoke is much older and telling tales of things that happened throughout his life. It's good maybe not as good as the other books about him but still worth listening to. Jack Garrett does an excellent job narrating this book. Another great book

This is another book with Smoke Jensen. It’s has some repeated parts, but it makes the story feel real. This has one of the two best readers of westerns, the other, George Guidall.

butchery of the mountain man

I loved this book. I always love hearing about smokes early life and anytime Preacher is present you know it's going to be good.

Great

Always enjoy a Johnstone western. This was an interesting approach to a story however the characters come alive with the telling.

WWJ & JAJ seem to have forgotten the previous books in the series. too many differences.

to name a few...

how was big rock founded?
how did smoke and Carson meet?
how did smoke and louis meet?
the children of smoke and sally...
Barry Colo? what???

JG had an amazing performance tho.

Massive amount of errors

If you’ve read the first mountain man series and this series from the beginning and are paying attention there are so many errors of the story I won’t even try to list them. Enjoy the book and draw your own conclusions.
