Starts with a bang but fizzles out

There are many aspects of this book that are beautifully written and informative. The story begins well with the arrival of an agoraphobic daughter brought to the island to the Beach House by her father. The impact of the death of their mother affects both Heather and her landlady Cara in ways that are revealed later. The dynamics between the Cara and her brother Robert is also interesting. Very early in the story the sudden death of Brett, Cara husband changes everything. The slow recovery of Cara and Heather are credible and fascinating. However, by the middle of the book, I became very bored by the courtship of Bo and Heather and the slow pace of the storyline. I was disappointed by the end.
The author writes and reads beautifully but I would have liked more restraint.

Beach House for rent

I have truly enjoyed several of Mary Alice Monroe's wonderful books. The stories are filled with life experiences. The education that is gleaned from each story opens our eyes and our hearts to awareness and love of nature and mankind. Keep it coming Mary Alice.

Another great book about the south

I love Mary Alice Monroe's books! They're so well-written and put you in the heart of the book in every way. The scenery comes to life in her stories, and is as much a part of the story as the characters and plot. The fact that she reads her own work adds to the story in my opinion. I also love the characters and how things come together at the end. This is such a great series! The Beach House is the first book I've read by this author, and since then, I've read all of her other works.

Why I enjoy Mary Alice Monroe's Novels

Mary Alice Monroe really does understand our low country life in SC and she captures just how much we love our wildlife like the turtles. Thank you for another delightful beach read!

Rather weak

Would you try another book from Mary Alice Monroe and/or Mary Alice Monroe?

Yes, because her other books are much better written than this one.

What do you think your next listen will be?

"Dead Certain" by Adam Mitzer

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Mary Alice Monroe?

I don't recall the names of narrators, but I'm not in love with Mary Alice Monroe as a narrator. There was very little inflation when she changed characters.

Could you see Beach House for Rent being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Quite possibly. I don't pay much attention to Actresses so I wouldn't have a clue!

Any additional comments?

I like all of her books, this one just didn't hit the mark for me. I didn't especially like the author as a narrator.

wishing for more about Toy and other characters

A nice simple story to catch up with Cara. I wish there was more in the story about characters in previous books. the sound was too quiet. I had the tablet volume at 100% and the volume fluctuated...usually too low.

Wonderful read!

This takes me back to Isle of Palms so very clearly, I loved the excellent discretion of the area.
