Madeline, Avery, and Nikki are strangers to each other, but they have one thing in common. They each wake up one morning to discover their life savings have vanished, along with their trusted financial manager - leaving them with nothing but co-ownership of a ramshackle beachfront house.

Throwing their lots in together, they take on the challenge of restoring the historic property. But just as they begin to reinvent themselves and discover the power of friendship, secrets threaten to tear down their trust - and destroy their lives a second time.

Critic reviews

"The sexual magnetism between the bickering Chase and Avery, and a secret that Nicole keeps from her newfound friends, add dramatic tension to Wax's formulaic plot, showcasing three women who rise above their shattered realities with grace, determination, and a little elbow grease." I tried to like this story of 3 women who try to renovate a run-down Florida mansion. However, I found the women (ranging in ages from mid 30s to 52) too weak, immature and self-absorbed to be sympathetic or engaging.

Maddie (52) was a suburban housewife with grown children, who was so clueless she didn't know that her husband had been laid off for months. Avery (40+) was an out-of work TV host who thought that using her architect degree would be boring. Nicole (30+) was a match maker for the rich and famous whose infamous brother swindled hundreds of millions from his clients, including all 3 women.

While I found the "renovations" part of the plot engrossing, I didn't feel like the women actually formed bonds of true friendship or respect, which would have involved trust, kindness and honesty. Parts were entertaining but I had hoped for more.

Weak Immature Women

I thought this was great. The performance was annoying at times…sounding very robotic…but I don’t know how good I’d be at narrating so I can’t be too critical. The character voices were fine. I can’t wait to listen to the other books in the series. I’ll probably have to purchase credits because I go through the books pretty quickly.

Loved it

This narrator is stilted and to fast. It was impossible to listen to and a waste of a credit.
