Publisher's summary

The job of reaping is a lonely one. Why? There has only ever been one Reaper. Grim has spent centuries ensuring the souls of the dying are made available for reuse. But when he mistakenly reaps X, a woman whose soul was very much alive, his eternity is flipped on its head.

Fate has given Grim a very short time to train his new partner in the ways of Reaping. Should he fail, his eternal life is forfeit. Unfortunately, even the best laid plans go astray...especially when X unleashes a malicious soul that threatens to undo the fabric of reality.

And ruin a completely good eternity.

Unfortunately a waste.

This book was okay, but it really seemed like a bad show on tv. I wanted it to be better but it never got there.

Great listen!

I really enjoyed listening to this book. Jack Wallen is an excellent narrator. He kept me listening on my drive to NY. I loved the characters and own the second book and can’t wait to read it and see how Grim and X will fix the situation!!

Yes but...

Love the book, not so much the narrator, even if he is the author. The storyline was very interesting & definitely a different slant on the reaper. So yes, I loved it, but no. Please, another narrator. There's something about his timbre. Someone with a more dynamic pitch would do wonders for this book.

Ominous

Got pulled into a different kind of story. It was moving quickly and the "People"involved were very real. The reader was excellent. Need to sleep now lol it is 5:57am!

Such a great narrator and such a funny dark story

A fun love story about the Grim reaper. What's not to love. Grim screws up and reaps X and now has to train her. It doesn't go to plan and a twisty turny hilarious but dark tale follows. Dark humour abound and so well written with lots of culture references and laugh out loud moments.

I loved the in jokes connecting the author's previous book Suicide Station to A tale of two reapers. You don't have to read Suicide Station but you should.

Plus this is read by the author who has an amazing voice and really adds to the story

At Death Do We Join.

Would you consider the audio edition of A Tale of Two Reapers to be better than the print version?

It is always nice to have the Author, Narrate a book he or she wrote. Mr. Wallen has a very commanding voice. It is a treat to hear the voices he envisioned for these characters. He speaks clearly and loud enough to hear everything.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Tale of Two Reapers?

The first time Grim sees Xtine's apt. All of the characters are well developed.

What about Jack Wallen’s performance did you like?

I love Jack Wallen's narrated books. I enjoy his voice & performance in the books he narrates. He has a vast range and does both male & female voices very well.I will pick a book that he narrated over one I have not heard of. I listen to many books and have never had a problem hearing every word that Mr.Wallen speaks. Others use music that is way too loud or voices that are so soft you can't hear or understand what the narrator said.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The Tale of Two Reapers. By Jack Wallen 2-10-2017I was an ARC reader for this book, It was so good I had to add it to my book collection as well. What a delightful book, something out of the norm.We meet Grim he is going through the motions of life, as he has for many years. He fights with his alarm clock like so many of us do, he gets up and dressed and makes his morning coffee till he remembers that he doesn’t like the dirty colored flavor water and then he starts his day.His best friend is Jonesy. Jonesy is pure of heart…a little slow and quite a character. He doesn’t know what it is that grim does for a living but he doesn’t mind. Grim is his best bud.Grim enjoys his time with Jonesy and is quite protective of him. They always have a good time and laughs when they are together no matter if they are playing a video game or meeting at a bar for dinner or a drink.Fate is a thorn in Grim’s side, as well as his boss. Even though Fate can end Grim with one word, Grim is still sarcastic and flippant with Fate. He feels he has earned that right for all his years of service. Having Fate unmaking you would be a fate worse than death. There had never been more than one Reaper ever…to Grim’s recollectionGrim has messed up in a big way and he is not sure what the outcome will be. Fate gives him a chance to make it right or he will be no more. Grim will do everything in his power to get X ready for what may lay ahead.Christine, X-tine as she was named by her friends in school and X to her friends. X is a wild card, she is Gothic Victorian in the way she dresses, smart and sarcastic and calls many unique individuals her friends. She will call upon a few to help her and Grim take care of a most vicious scythe, “Jon’s”. She will give Grim a run for his money and keep him on his toes.Speaking of X’s friends meet Amnesia, Ammy as her friends call her for.She is a recovering addict and X is watching out for her. She has the gift of seeing what others don’t. X and Grim had some work to do but didn’t want to leave Amnesia at X’s house alone so X cashed in on a favor owed to her by Darthaniel, Darth for short and he came toAdult sit the sleeping Ammy. X thought they would hit it off well. X was right. So this makes up their little Scooby team that set out to make things right. Grim, X, Ammy and Darth. And what a team they make.In the end Fate has the final word on both the living and dead, Fate always sees the whole picture if it is shared with us or not.Pick up this book to find out more about Grim and his Scooby team. I can hardly wait for the next installment. Jack Wallen can not be boxed up or put in any one pigeon hole. He is a prolific writer with an immense imagination who dabbles in many genres. Each one he molds into his own domain. If you haven’t read any of his work you have to take a look at what he has produced. There is something for everyone. From Steampunk, to Zombies with a lot in-between.

More Please!

I was given this book for an honest listen and I was not disappointed. If you are looking for a hip metaphorical listen with plenty of humor and pop culture references then you have found it. I was pleasantly surprised, as was my husband, how many times I laughed out loud. I listen to plenty of audiobooks and I feel a bit like a connoisseur. This was perfectly done, narration was great but the storyline was unique. I look forward to the next installment and behoove you, reading the reviews to go ahead and snag a copy.

This was hilarious, start to finish!

I have never listed to a book narrated by the person who wrote it, but I have to say, this one was a ton of fun. I listened to the excerpt, laughed several times, and promptly decided to give it a go. The story takes a very humorous look at 'the grim reaper' and his world, and then promptly throws a wrench in the order of that tale. I enjoyed the universe Mr. Wallen painted for us, as well as the odd personalities he gave the characters. Some of his accents were off (his Jamaican sounded more Scottish than anything) but if anything that made me giggle more. There were, however, definitely some questions that were left unanswered. I have yet to read the second book, but hope it gives a few more insights. Overall, this is a very funny listen, with a gentle nod to a philosophical depth that was unexpected, but enjoyable.
