Publisher's summary

An alien colony vanishes without a trace.

Lt. Jade Mahelona idolizes her father, a Solar Defense Force admiral, and tries to follow in his footsteps. She excels in the Academy and is brilliant in hand-to-hand combat thanks in part to a rare ability to sense electric fields. Then an alien stargate knocks her career 500 light-years off course.

Jade joins a rescue team's quest to save the remote alien colony. But her nanobiological team leader despises her, the cerebral alien scientist doesn't have a clue about humans, and the only other human on the team is a professor who thinks all soldiers are grunts.

When an unexpected turn of events puts Jade in command of the rescue team, she must make them work together to survive against a brutal, immortal cyborg who wants them dead. Mysterious legendary creatures become real, and Jade discovers godlike technology that will change the galaxy forever.

Jade must not merely survive, but destroy the cyborg, because her band of misfit aliens is all that stands between Earth and its conquest by immortal hordes who value human food-thralls for their juicy taste as much as for their backbreaking forced labor.

The Narrator makes the story!

A simple story of a charming space opera. The narrator makes the book enjoyable and engaging. Listen to this book to have a full captivating story due to the fact the narrator immerses himself into the narrative.

This book is a distinctive space opera with a slew of new and exciting characters. The story revolves around Jade is trying to find the remnants of the colony of an alien race being completely gone. The book dives into heavy political tensions as the story moves towards an incoming invasion.

Overall, this a decent story but the narrator makes this story great, His voices for each character are fascinating for the listener. This is hands down one of the best narrators out there, better than Will Wheaton!

Amazing epic space sci-fi

I received a free copy of this audiobook for my honest review.
This is my first title from author Jim Meeks-Johnson and narrator AC Oliver, and I can't recommend this more highly for fans of space sci-fi.

Jump into a galaxy-spanning adventure of Lieutenant Jade Mahelona a human Solar Defense Force member who becomes part of a rescue crew tasked with locating a herd of missing Elloquine.

AC Oliver does an outstanding job voicing the expansive cast of characters and engaging you in the journey. My favorite standout bits were the dance communication language of the Elloquine, the dry and direct communication of the Obnots, and the discussion of the benefits of both fulfilling a pre-decided role or being creative in your approach to life.

The start of a great space opera

Earth is on the brink of its first steps into a galactic version of UN style of governing body that spans known space. The only problem? Well there’s a few, one is a race of beings that seek its destruction and assimilation into its own territory, the 2nd problem? Joining required the entire human race to adopt a single profession. Our MC is a unique human who has been given an opportunity to run a special mission. Her performance could very well decide the fate of the human populace. Great battle sequences. Well developed plot. Some seriously amazing vocal/editing talents. I cannot wait to hear from more in this universe. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

My new favorite!

Wow! This book started off right and kept going up from there. It had wonderful and well developed plot and characters. I was invested in every minute of almost nonstop action. The alien worlds, species, and character were really superb. I can hardly wait till the release of the next book in the series.

surprisingly good.

I'm going to be honest I got this as a free review book. now with that being said the book was surprisingly good. the story really moved along well and was well written the narrator did a pretty good job as well. there is a lot of action and all together and excellent storyline. now on to the negatives I do feel like the narrator could have been a little more involved in the book showing a little more emotion, but he does a good enough job to get the point across and it wasn't annoying to listen to. my other negative about this book would be there isn't much in depth in the characters. not a whole lot of backstory, and not a whole lot of growth. now with those few negatives out of the way the book is really good and I will definitely be continuing to series, and I highly suggest that if you like space fantasy sci-fi you definitely pick this up and give it a listen. has very good and diverse aliens and they're induction into alien society is very well thought out. so if you're looking for something interesting definitely give this a go.

A complex narrative with unforgettable characters

Received as audio review copy from the narrator AC Oliver, this is an honest review. This is once of stories that is beautifully confusing with so many complex, interwoven narratives you attention is a most to keep it all straight. The narrator gives one hell of a performance as he brings into existence a plethora of characters painted through unique accents and mannerisms that allows each individual to be memorable. With intense action and deeply visualized aliens cultures, Enemy Immortal delivers hours of a wild adventure... highly recommended

Good World Building

This is a interesting story about human kind being considered to possibly join the Collective called the Entanglement. The main competition in the Galaxy assimilating planets are the monozygotic (fissioning) biotech-augmented sentient monsters which inherit ancestral memory, and absorb memory by eating their enemies brains as well as the entire body. Narrator does a Great job with the characters voices and Storyline.

Enemy Immortal by Jim Meeks-Johnson
Narrated by AC Oliver
Genre: Epic Scifi

*Spoilers possible in discussion, though I do try to avoid them.

Summary:
Lieutenant Jade Mahelona is sent to be Earth’s representative on a rescue mission to track down missing colonists. Evil cyborg dude wants to take over more systems.

Additional Comments:
• Decent descriptions.
• Nice world building. There are a lot of alien cultures.
• The book was too long. It meandered all over the place. First, we got a little of crazy dude’s plan. Then, we got Jade on a different mission. Then, some background on the politics of the galaxy. There was a bit about the other soldier too, Jades friendly rival.
• The romance angle felt like a very hastily added thing, like, whoops, probably should put some romance in here.
• Well performed. Characters were distinguishable. Only a few of the chosen voices were annoying, which with something this extensive is about right.
• This is hard scifi with a lot of intriguing characters.
• The cyborg crazy dude’s motivation wasn’t always clear. It seemed to be defined as stereotypical take over more systems.
• Politics and the pseudo-love interest whose name I can’t remember right now didn’t get too much page time, but I liked the twists.
• The entire band angle seemed superfluous.
• The journey to get where they were going seemed like it took forever and a half.
• The cultural exploration pieces felt tacked on. Plant guy’s infatuation with Vishnu was random, but he eventually came to his senses.
• End battle was cool. Probably took 50 minutes of audio though because it happened in at least two different locations from three-plus perspectives.
• The author almost painted himself into a corner with making the bad guy nearly invincible.

Conclusion: 4 of 5 Stars
Very detailed scifi adventure. If you’re into hard scifi, this is a good option.

Note: I got the book from the narrator. I have freely chosen to leave this review. These are my honest opinions.
