Story
Sometimes, it can be nerve-wracking or just plain uncomfortable to say "no". Especially when dealing with our loved ones or at the workplace. Unfortunately, it can be extremely damaging, especially over the long term, to be constantly doing things that we don't want to do or saying yes when, deep down, we're longing to be able to say "no" whenever we'd like to.

When you are criticized or rejected, do you have a tendency to lash out or withdraw entirely? Both types of kneejerk reactions can have lasting and unintended consequences, affecting our friendships, careers, families, and romantic relationships. The truth is, overreacting hurts us as much as it hurts the people around us. You may see overreacting as an unchangeable part of your personality, but in reality, this tendency, like any other, can be unlearned.

Keeping a clear head and thinking straight during intense emotional moments is not something many people can do. For decades, it had been assumed, falsely, that a higher IQ correlates to a greater probability of personal or professional success. But paper after countless papers - and more importantly, the real world - have proven time and time again that this isn't the case.

Story
When you are criticized or rejected, do you have a tendency to lash out or withdraw entirely? Both types of kneejerk reactions can have lasting and unintended consequences, affecting our friendships, careers, families, and romantic relationships. The truth is, overreacting hurts us as much as it hurts the people around us. You may see overreacting as an unchangeable part of your personality, but in reality, this tendency, like any other, can be unlearned.

Unfortunately, it can be extremely damaging, especially over the long term, to be constantly doing things that we don't want to do or saying yes when, deep down, we're longing to be able to say "no" whenever we'd like to.
