Publisher's summary

"Two ghosts troubled Dr. Benjamin Bones. One he feared would never release him. Another he worried might slip away, however much he tightened his grip...."

So begins Divorce Can Be Deadly, the long-awaited second book in Emma Jameson's wartime cozy mystery series. Return to Birdswing, a tiny Cornish village, in the bitter winter of 1939 and revisit old friends as they embark on more amateur sleuthing. Irrepressible Lady Juliet is taking a correspondence course in private detection and is vexed by the return of her soon-to-be ex-husband. Meanwhile, not only has Ben failed to realize the depth of her feelings for him, but his obsession with Lucy, the Fenton House ghost, grows stronger.

When a bloodless, half-naked corpse is discovered in a great house in a nearby village, Ben and Juliet must again follow the clues to solve the case. Join them as they pry into the secret lives of villagers in seemingly picture-perfect Barking, including a vicar who hides from his secretary, a baron haunted by the Great War, and a butler who just might have done it.

Brimming with romance, historical details, and warm humor, Divorce Can Be Deadly will prove itself worth the wait!

Smashing! Hooked, utterly

Dr Bones and his Lady friend are a heavenly pair- also in the sense of being star-crossed. Even so, they've spoiled me for other literary pairings. Would like leave the next in series until its season comes around (Yuletide theme) but I doubt I will be able to wait that long!

Great plot twist!

situational-humor, verbal-humor, romantic, cosy-mystery, Cornwall, ghosts, law-enforcement, 1939, medical-doctor, amateur-sleuth, murder, murder-investigation, relatives, relationships, falsely-accused, family, family-drama, fiction, infidelities, historical-fiction, historical-places-events, small-town, rural*****

It's a historical cozy mystery! It's a spoof! It's a soap opera! It's a romance!
It's all of that and more!
Definitely character driven (and they certainly are!), and a lot of fun despite the corpse and, well, other things. Even if you haven't read the first in series (I did), I think that this does stand alone just fine. There are some really fun characters. sneaky plot twists, and even a mystifying red herring or three (but no spoilers!). Great cosy read!
Wonderful narration as always by voice actor Matthew Lloyd Davies.

Humor, History, and Suspense!

Terrific work, Emma. I love your poignancy, too. Well-drawn characters one cares about in a timeless setting.

Absolutely charming!

Any additional comments?

In a class of its own when it comes to cozy mysteries. Reminiscent of Agatha Christie. Fun characters, light & clever humor, appealing mysteries. The narration was excellent. Highly recommended!

Great Fun

I’d read the Dr. Bones series awhile ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Listening to it greatly adds to the fun. The narrator is excellent for this story.

Granted- it’s stretched believability, but so much fun I don’t care.

Awful.

I read for entertainment. I enjoy stories where characters face challenges. I deplore situations where characters — usually women — are blackmailed into terrible decisions “for the greater good.” This is book two of what could have been a superb mystery series. I will not finish this book or read any others that follow it.
