Publisher's summary

Demelza is a heartwarming, gripping, and utterly entertaining saga that brings to life an unforgettable cast of characters and one of the greatest love stories of our age.

An impoverished miner's daughter, Demelza Carne is now married to Ross Poldark, who once rescued her from a fairground brawl. Her efforts to adapt to the ways of the gentry - and her husband - place her in hilarious and embarrassing situations, through which she becomes self-assured, mannered, and lovely, and the birth of her first child brings a joy she never experienced before.

But tragedy strikes where least expected, and sows the seeds of an enduring rivalry for Ross Poldark and the powerful George Warleggan, and tests Ross and Demelza's marriage and their love....

THE POLDARK SAGA...CONTINUED...

Having been a fan of the POLDARK series on PBS/BBC, I jumped into the first two books and have not been disappointed. Winston Graham really knows how to tell a story and never gets caught in the weeds. His plot moves along quickly and his characters are easy to love or hate.

In Book 2, we learn more about Demelza and her marriage to Ross Poldark, we see Ross' struggles with the mine and Demelza's attempts to reunite Verity with her unrequited love, Captain Blamey. Through these experiences, we see more the life in Cornwall and get to know the supporting players in the story.

We feel their happy times and cry at their sad moments. All in all, it's a wonderful story and I can't wait to get into Book 3, JEREMY POLDARK.

The narrator was a bit problematic for me. I listen to books almost exclusively while driving or taking the train; the narrator had a difficult habit of softening her volume at the end of sentences, making it so difficult to hear! I wish the director and producer of the audiobook had taken more care to abate this habit. Otherwise, her voices and accents were good and easy to understand.

Excellent follow up to the first book!

Any additional comments?

As a previous reviewer noted, this book is even better than the first. I found out about this series by way of the recent BBC production. I wanted to read (listen) it before the series aired here in the U.S. While I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, I really loved this second book. The author delves more into the story and the characters and especially Demelza. It ends in such a way that you will want to get the third novel. I'm really hoping that audible has the next books available. Makes me want to visit Cornwall! The narrator is good, had no problems with her.

No offense but reader sounds robotic..

I love this story and TV series but the reader really wasn't captivating like the reader of the first book was....

Just as wonderful as the first book in the Poldark series!

Held me captive throughout. Winston is an amazing writer, and Corbett exquisite as narrator. Although I believe she tried too hard to sound like a man by over-deepening her voice for many of the male characters, making them sound not really male at all and with little differentiation among them. Trust that our imaginations can carry out the rest if the focus were to remain on narration, rather than having to "act out" their voices. One big exception to this is Judd's voice: Perfect!

Great book, great series.

I hope all of the Poldark books are released on Audible soon. The narrations on all of them are spot on.

Awful narrator

So very disappointing this narrator was the only choice. The range of voice throughout goes from a hisss whisper to a low yell . Not so great at midnight. The book itself is excellent. Someday we may get a choice. Thank you.

very good

I didn't like the narrator as much as the one for the 1st book, but it was an excellent story.
