Wonderful Story

Beautifully told story read it 30 years ago and enjoyed it again as much as I did then you will not be disappointedu

Heartbreaking and Tragic

I started reading this book when I was an early teen.. Unfortunately, about 40% of the book was torn away, and I couldn't find another copy. It has haunted me for more than 30 years. I finally thought about what story I would want to hear on audible, and it happened to be here. I found it just as disturbing as when I was a young girl. At least I know how it ends now.

Cashelmara: Fantastic listen

This is a story that follows 4 generations of a family made up of the Irish, the English, and the Americans. The story keeps you enthralled in its details. Excellent story and read with all the relevant accents.

Great listen

I was so excited to see this title available. This is one of the first books I ever read and a great listen.

Terrible narration

I was really excited to listen to this book, but the narration is just so bad I had to stop. The voice changes and inflection are so dramatic and unnecessary. And with a 20+ hour story, you have enjoy the voice almost as much as the story.

An old favorite

I read this when it was first published and enjoyed it very much. My only complaint about this audio version is the voice, intonation and inflections used for Marguerite. The voice seemed too young,
and the inflections negatively influenced the way she was portrayed.

I cried, I laughed and I had chills during intense moments of this Fantastic Story. I was extremely sad that it ended. Susan Howatch did it again! She writes with such a depth of understanding and insight with all her books that it leaves you in Awe of her knowledge of life, religion and politics. Bravo!

Always one of my favorites

I read the hard copy of Cashelmara over 35 years ago. It captured my interest right from the start. I was happy to see it was available as audiobook which allowed me to enjoy the story once more. I highly recommend it.

Classic

Classic historical fiction. Great story line, however took a star away for the ending. Build up was an A ending was a C+

Mixed

I had real mixed thoughts about this book. First let me say that I listened to the audible version.
The book is very long. The first part of the book was so boring I almost stopped listening. It takes a while to become good but it eventually did.
I’m sure that the narrators did an excellent job. But over the years listening to so much historical fiction, I’ve come to despise the haughty English characters. Knowing several English people doesn’t help my prejudices.
But I’m the end, I did enjoy the book very much and was sorry when it was over.
