Publisher's summary

Leon Uris’s beloved Irish classic

From the acclaimed author who enthralled the world with Exodus, Battle Cry, QB VII, Topaz, and other beloved classics of twentieth-century fiction comes a sweeping and powerful epic adventure that captures the "terrible beauty" of Ireland during its long and bloody struggle for freedom. It is the electrifying story of an idealistic young Catholic rebel and the valiant and beautiful Protestant girl who defied her heritage to join his cause. It is a tale of love and danger, of triumph at an unthinkable cost - a magnificent portrait of a people divided by class, faith, and prejudice - an unforgettable saga of the fires that devastated a majestic land...and the unquenchable flames that burn in the human heart.

Critic reviews

"Leon Uris uses history as the raw material for legend in his powerful novel Trinity, a tale packed with romance and adventure." (Philadelphia Sunday Bulletin)

"The story has a kind of relentless power, based on the real tragedy of Ireland, and Uris’s achievement is that he has neither cheapened nor trivialized that tragedy." (New York Times Book Review)

"An honest Irish story, emotional, full of...tales of Irish heroes and fools, of God, fear and superstition, of love and hatred, poverty and greed." (San Diego Union-Tribune)

FINALLY!!!!

I've been an audible member since 2006, and I've been requesting this book almost since day one. I can't put into words how excited I was to see that Brilliance Audio was releasing this title at last. The narrator is very good, and the story is just as I remember it. It's very detailed, but I feel like I've been transported back in time to Ireland. This is the book that put visiting Ireland on my bucket list. Thank you audible for finally making this available. Now, please make Redemption, Trinity's sequel, available.

This Narrator is excellent.

I’m an Irish man with a strong Irish Broge (so I’ve be told a lot) and I’ve lived in America for 20 years now. The reason I say that is because the narrator John Keating is in a league of his own not does he just do an Irish accent but he does the accent of all different parts of Ireland Northern and southern. He also does accents of the Scots and the English both male a female he makes this book come alive. Trinity the book I only heard about when I emigrated to America20 years ago and have loved since. I read it first which was amazing so when I saw it was on audible I jumped at it. Mr Keating makes a good book a brilliant book. Hopefully I can find other books he’s reading knowing I won’t be disappointed.

5 Stars Across the Board!

I first read Trinity more than 40 years ago. I loved this sweeping epic so much that I purposed to name my son (if one came), after the book's main character, Conor Larkin. I had to wait until 1994 to get it done but I have my own "Conor", (that's one "N" after the Irish derivative), running around.
I am a huge Uris fan ... always have been. Trinity, while not his most famous book, is certainly on a scale with Exodus and The Haj. It is a big sprawling saga set against 200 years of Ireland's troubled history. We follow the family Larkin through several generations, many exploits and romance. The reader of this audio book is first class, almost putting you in the scene as he weaves his voice in and out of the characters.
If you're looking for a quick, light read or, feel like you have to be on the edge of your seat every moment, you should probably pass. This is a big, hefty story with historical backdrops and it is to be savored ... not gulped.

Wonderfully Captivating

Early on when Seamus felt compelled to say the Rosary with true feeling. years ago, in the late 70's I read this book. It was the first book I'd ever laughed aloud while reading. Uris is a masterful story teller.

A MUST READ for all Irish Americans

I'm so glad this book finally came out as an Audiobook. It is essential reading for Irish Americans.
The narrator was excellent and used enough of his Irish accent to understand the phrases and intonations without being confusing to non Irish.

Everyone loves Ireland

This is a heartbreaking story of Ireland. Everyone loves Ireland except the Irish and the Brits. My heart basically hurt through the whole thing. I kept telling myself it was just a book, but it's not just a book. This is most likely the way it was and probably still is in many ways.

emotional ride up to times leading to the troubles

Leon Uris has lived up to his reputation with Trinity
The Larkins are an old and well respected family for many years, and are now leading us into the troubled times of Ireland. Although fictional, it is based upon history, and one can easily see 1 historical irish figure after another.
#Historical Fiction leaves you on the edge of your seat #Suspenseful #Emotional #Inspiring
I cant wait to listen to the sequel Redemption, but it will have to wait, as it is only available in an abridged format right now (Boo Audible).

Fantastic!

this was a brilliant story, well-read, I could imagine everything that happened, possibly it helped that I live in Derry, the story took place around Derry and just a few miles across the Border in the Irish Republic, and also Belfast among other places. this was my first audible book, what a choice I made.

Just a beauty

I first read this book when I was about 14. I loved it then and I love it still. To find it again and to hear it out loud this time, somehow made it even more magical. It is a long listen, but well worth it

Can’t bear the narrator

The book hasn’t grabbed me so far but I’m giving up 4 hours in as I can’t bear the narrator. It’s like some faux Lilting Irish accent from a 1950s Hollywood film made for Americans. He has this sing song voice while relating real horror in the story. Apologies to the guy if this is his native accent though not right for this and if not you should be ashamed.

Excellent historical fiction

Trinity manages to span the events from the 1840's Great Famine all the way through to the Easter Rising of 1916, taking this into consideration, I'm surprised it's only 900 pages. I loved how the author really immersed the reader within the lives and stories of these families, making all the struggles and triumphs all the more poignant as a result.

There's some truly heartbreaking moments in Trinity. I don't often cry when reading books but I cried about 8 times listening to this. I knew what I was in for with the subject matter, but the author did an incredible job with this that it will be one of those rare books never to leave me.

I did feel perhaps it was a bit biased at times, for such a complex situation. But I'm Aussie and really can't comment on that obviously. I'm interested to hear from my Irish friends as to their thoughts on this and any other aspects of the book they'd like to discuss.

Tough climb but worth the view into Irish history

I have made 3 attempts to read Trinity myself but it's a hard slog through first section. John Keating's awesome narration pulled me through the story to the gem of a heart-wrenching tale of the poor Irish peasant farmers and their road to independence. Great story with a fantastic narration.

I couldn't wait to get out for my walk or run to continue listening. Both the beauty and the tragedy of Ireland are wonderfully captured in the rich personal insights of Uris' characters and the timeless struggle against tyranny. A brilliant book, terrifically narrated.
