Publisher's summary

Redemption isn't a word Jim Heron knows much about - his specialty is revenge, and to him, sin is all relative. But everything changes when he becomes a fallen angel and is charged with saving the souls of seven people from the seven deadly sins.

Vin diPietro long ago sold his soul to his business, and he's good with that - until fate intervenes in the form of a tough-talking Harley-riding, self-professed savior. But then he meets a woman who will make him question his destiny, his sanity, and his heart - and he has to work with a fallen angel to win her over and redeem his own soul.

Entertaining listen

I was hesitant to purchase this book. I love the Black Dagger Brotherhood books and I was afraid that this one would leave me disappointed. The storyline seemed too different for me to maintain interest as strongly as I do for the BDB books. I was very wrong! I had a very difficult time finding stopping points and kept finding reasons to keep listening "just a little longer...". It also nicely correlates to the BDB books and gives you glimpses of characters familiar if you have read that series. Overall, I'm very glad that its in my library!

Riveting

This is an incredible book. I thoroughly enjoyed this author, I usually don't go for this type of book. But this one really grabbed me. Great narrator also. I can't wait for the next in the series. Note: The language and the sex are graphic so if that bothers you this is not the book for you. Thank you J.R. Ward. Thank you Audible.

Enjoyable read

This book is action packed, with a nice steamy romance thrown in. I enjoyed the plot. The action was fast paced and I found it hard to wait to see what would happen next. The paranormal parts of the plot were understandable, tied closely to judeo-christian religious mythology most would be at least somewhat familiar with. There are rather graphic sex encounters in this book, and if you are offended by such things then beware. However, the book certainly doesn't center around the lovemaking, and when it does occur, it fits into the plot. The characters were engaging in their roles. The only complaint I found with the book overall is the dialogue of some of the characters. It's a bit of nitpicking, really. I believe the author was attempting to make some of the main characters come across as tough and "street smart", but I felt she really overused abbreviated words, cursing, and slang in general to the point that it felt a tad contrived. I felt Eric Dove did a great job of narrating the story. Overall, a credit worthy read.

A start that shows potential

As a huge fan of Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood, I thought I would give this new series a try. No, it's not quite at the level of the BDB, but its premise and characters show real potential.

By starting off in the Brothers' stomping ground of Caldwell we begin our voyage with unfamiliar people in a familiar setting and even get the small thrills of bumping into characters and places we already know, even if they are only the briefest of encounters. Some places, like the Commodore and the Iron Mask are more central to the story so we spend a little more time there.

The narrator does a great job of bringing the characters to life and providing the right tone for the text.

The three characters who it appears will form the core of this series have potential, although they didn't quite grab me the way characters in the BDB have. While I liked Marie Terese and was rooting for her, I have to admit a bit of a squirm factor when the "good girl" is a prostitute.

Overall, none of the characters are quite as fully developed as I would have liked, but it took me until the second book of the BDB to fully warm up to the Brothers and now I adore them--so there's potential here.

tolerable

This book started off a little rough. It was all over the board for a good while, several chapters at least. I was fighting with the idea of getting my credit back from audible on this one. It wasn't until about (maybe) halfway through that everything started turning around and making sense. Then it started getting pretty good. It ended pulling it altogether, but I wasn't sure I wanted to get the second book in the series.

I just finished the second book and I am glad I struggled through this one. It gets better.

fabulous book, flat narration.

I am very glad I read "Covet" before it came to Audible. As always, J. R. Ward delivers an action-packed sexy story with an interesting premise and intriguing characters. I was thrilled that two of the brothers made appearances and I liked getting to know characters who only had a minor role in the BDB books.
I was extremely disappointed when I discovered that Jim Frangione wasn't the narrator. Eric Dove's rather unemotional narration really detracted from the story. He gave Vin diPietro a strange accent that made me squirm with discomfort every time Vin talked. Because of this, it took me well over a month to listen to the entire book.
If you are already a J. R. Ward fan, the lack-luster narration probably won't scare you away, but if this is the first audio book you've experienced by J. R. Ward, I highly recommend that you read her Black Dagger Brotherhood series before reading Covet.

Promising New Series

A welcome visit back to Caldwell! This was an enjoyable listen due to a good story and fantastic narration. The set-up was a little slow, but once it got going, I found it difficult to find a good place to stop! Ward has created more strong male characters that obviously have more going on than can be revealed in one book. While that creates a desire to snatch up the next installment, the stories of Vin & Marie-Therese are wrapped up tidily!

Her Best Yet - And That is Saying Quite a Bit!

I absolutely love it. This is a well written story that kept me interested from start to end. This is my first listen from reader Eric Dove. I often felt I was listening to my favorite narrator Holter Graham. He brought Vin's sex appeal out nicely ;) This is definitely credit worthy. I would even say this is worthy of an actual purchase.

Different but really great!

I am a Black Dagger mega fan! This book was a surprise. I was pleased to see a few characters from that series in this book. This is not a continuation of that theme, or that series, but very captivating non-the-less.
J.R.Ward did not disappoint me. She delivered a great read....I am on my second time through so I can assure you that the read is captivating. I am looking forward to the next in the series. Thanks for reading my review!

You Can't Go Wrong With JR Ward

I love the worlds that JR Ward creates. They are full of adventure and sexy men! Also, several times I have purchased paranormal romance stories and find they are confusing with so many characters you can't keep track of them all. I recommend starting out with Dark Lover it is not in the Fallen Angels book series but the characters intertwine between with the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Also Dark Lover is one of my absolute favorites by JR Ward. Happy Listening!
