It was an ordinary school day, the day I lost my little brother. One moment he was on the roundabout and then was gone. Gone. Missing. They all blamed me. I was in charge. Even though I was only ten years old. They sent me away. The hurt, the shame, the questions. The not knowing. I tried to move on. It’s been nineteen years in exile and now somebody wants me back. Love the characters! Loved the story, I did figure it out long before we got to who the killer was but I still loved it. Katy Sobey is great doing male or female voices too. Pulls me right in, I can picture the scenes. I love to listen throughout the whole day while I'm working around the house. I hate to pause these books. Cliche
I can’t explain why this work underwhelmed me. I didn’t find the story, prose, or characters compelling. Quite a bit of self aggrandizing copaganda (for example, behaving like it’s absurd to think that police would allocate more resources to an officer’s family in danger than they would someone else).

Had to drop a 'star'.
I have really enjoyed these first two books by this author and have the third to listen to. I'm sure I will follow this author in future too...but...whilst the characters and plotting is wonderfully thought through and entertaining, the Police procedural isn't! Three times there was reference to a prisoner being read or reminded of their 'Miranda' rights. If this is lack of preparation it's poor and if it's to appeal to an American audience it's out of place in this very 'local' book. Everything else about the book I loved and I probably sound pedantic but 30 years in law enforcement makes me read police procedure more closely.

Cliched and predictable.
Blimey, that 7 hours of my life I’ll never get back…
However, if you are going to indulge, do yourself a favour and make up a bingo card and listen for how many times these phrases are repeated and re-repeated throughout the duration of the most formulaic novel ever written.Enjoy!

2. Milky white throat”

Enjoyable if not gripping
Great to pass the time but lacked some substance. The narrator feels like the wrong choice for the key character, as it made her less convincing. The story was well thought through but a bit far stretched to be considered a police procedural. The choice of language was sometimes a little frustrating. I got a bit bored of people 'literally vibrating with <insert emotion here>' . Glad I didn't pay for it, but found it entertaining enough to download the next one to pass the time on my morning commute.

Dull and drawn out.
Overly descriptive. Reminded me of English writing class at school where we were taught how to add detail, colour, texture etc to things, but this author hugely overdoes it. Not every single thing needs a long extravagant description.
And I swear there was a 10 minute scene / chapter just describing a hungover person wanting a cup of coffee.. get on with it!
I tried a couple of times to finish this but just couldn’t stay engaged. Very dull.

Great story but kinda a bit meh
The story itself and the writing style is excellent, but the main characters seeming lack of knowledge about dating apps amongst other things gave it a bit of a ‘written by an old person’ feel.
The narrator’s breathy, strangely inflected reading style along with some noticeable editing mistakes took a couple of hours to get used to and I almost gave up at the start; but I’m glad i persevered.

Loved it.
Diane, you did it again and the twist at the end ? Brilliant.
Narrator Katy Sobey , I love your voice and, obviously, could listen for hours to both the Book & You.
I discovered Diane Saxon with the first Book, Find her Alive, and I ‘read’, Someone’s There, eagerly ! With both Books, like a Fish, was hooked.
Am about to start on the next one.
Please keep up the Sterling work Diane and Katy.
Sincerely, a new Fan ♥️

Great story
Really enjoyed this story. Characters were likeable. I did guess the baddie but still was worth the listen to. I thought that the narrator was also really great, probably one of the best narrations I’ve come across since starting my audible journey a few months ago.

Story
It was an ordinary school day, the day I lost my little brother. One moment he was on the roundabout and then was gone. Gone. Missing. They all blamed me. I was in charge. Even though I was only ten years old. They sent me away. The hurt, the shame, the questions. The not knowing. I tried to move on. It’s been nineteen years in exile and now somebody wants me back. Someone with a dark secret.
