Publisher's summary

The hit Commune Series is back with book five! Rejoin some of your old favorites and plenty of unforgettable new ones on another deadly romp through post-apocalyptic America.

Books and Bug are polar opposites, despite their friendship. Rumors on the road speak of a hospital in Washington D.C. Leading a small group of survivors, including pregnant women, the two travel in earnest to provide the soon-to-be mothers a safe place to deliver.

Bug, a natural, charismatic leader, refuses to leave anyone behind while the other, Books, is a pragmatic social outsider who wishes not to be responsible for the safety of others. Together, they're exactly what this group needs to survive.

But DC isn't exactly the safehaven they hoped for, having been divided into three major factions: the Mall—which is controlled by a man named Knox and his lieutenants—Columbia Heights to the north, and Anacostia to the south.

On arrival, Books immediately recognizes that the people of the Mall are in a wartime posture. Uncomfortable with the idea of being pulled into someone else's war, he advises that the entire company should depart. Bug, upon realizing that the Mall is wonderfully organized with hydro-electric power, security, and a functioning hospital, refuses that advice, stating that it is more than fair that they should help their new benefactors defend their adopted territory.

Can their bond endure their conflicting points of view or will they be drawn against each other, and into a war that will consume everyone...leaving DC in Ashes?

a great continuation

this is a fantastic leap into widening the world that Joshua Gayou introduced us to several years ago. The fall cannot exist in Wyoming alone and it was great to hear/see familiar characters and meet new ones. RC Bray of course delivers a grade A performance as always. this book did not disappoint. the new characters are well written and unforced. they are very true to life. these could be your neighbors, friends, strangers on the street. well done to both authors. on to the next!!

Out-fu**ing-standing!!!

I know some folks got their panties in a bunch, because this introduces new characters in a new location. But the story in itself is great. This is also setting the stage for what happens next. A good story is a marathon people, not a series of sprints. Adding Devon Ford to the mix, does not diminish the storytelling in any way. I've felt that dread after other favorite authors collaborate with someone on a book series they've written alone. I've been let down more than once. Ringo fans know my pain. But this combination just works out amazing. If you've never read Devon C Ford, he has his own post-apoc series set in Europe which is also magnificent, and is very similar to commune in many ways. It's called After It Happened. And what can you say about RC Bray that everyone doesn't already know? He is simply the greatest story teller of our time. I absolutely loved it and can't wait for the next one.

Kinda a set up for the rest of the series.

New locations, characters and factions, along with some you already know. not my favorite so far but it does give the roots to something BIG they're cooking up. will be a must-listen if you plan on following this series to the end.

Good standalone story disappointment in the series

loved the first installment. I understood this was a expansion of the original story. But waited for some type of hint or just small mention of the other characters. That disappointment to end may have affected my review. I enjoyed they story and RC is the man. Just disappointment in lack of anything of the original characters.

The negative reviewers are clowns

While I definitely hoped for more Jake and company or Gibbs new journey. Regardless this new bunch of characters including The Otter were great. I am very conservative in political views and I just I really don’t understand any of these negative reviews saying this book was woke or different from previous. The author described the main characters from first books in the same way when introducing them to the story. The DC area is predominantly African American and Hispanic. If Nancy Pelosi was the leader of The Mall I would shut the book off immediately.

And then the reviewers saying they were mislead about returning characters. The name of the book is The Battle of DC. Would Jake and crew move to DC? Would Gibbs new journey take him to DC? It’d be a pretty far stretch to have anyone but The Otter go to DC.

The story was excellent. Understanding the mindset of people and how they change is fascinating and should make people wonder how they would react in these situations. And most these situations in the past 5 books are pretty close to being real in the last few years. I can only hope Josh and Devon continue to collaborate together on further books with our favorite characters and expand the dystopian world more. Kill Grease tho. He was annoying as hell. And for the love all that’s holy give us the answers we want on Jake.

Fantastic job by RC Bray as always!

Great but new characters.

Saw the bad reviews after I got it. I thought it was just as good as the earlier books. Great characters. Might need a better naming situation unless he brings it all back.

Change Of Pace

This wasn’t a continuation of the other books, but still was very enjoyable as expected. Don’t listen to the negative reviews solely based from the perspective of it not being about the Wyoming group. It was still wonderfully captivating and left me hungry for more.

What happened?

Commune WAS a favorite...not anymore. Jake was mysterious. Inexplicable stumbling rage isn't even close.

Not part of the series.

This should have been a stand alone book instead of part of the series. I didn’t connect to this really and was ready for it to end. Just not the same unfortunately.
