Publisher's Summary

An unfiltered, unapologetic, hilarious, and sometimes obscene assemblage of tales from the down-and-dirty traveling comedy circuit

Doug Stanhope has been drunkenly stumbling down the back roads and dark alleys of stand-up comedy for over a quarter of a century, roads laden with dank bars, prostitutes, cheap drugs, farm animals, evil dwarfs, public nudity, menacing third-world police, psychotic breaks, sex offenders, and some understandable suicides. You know, just for levity.

While other comedians were seeking fame, Stanhope was seeking immediate gratification, dark spectacle, or sometimes just his pants. Not to say he hasn't rubbed elbows with fame. He's crashed its party, snorted its coke, and jumped into its pool naked, literally and often repeatedly - all while artfully dodging fame himself.

Doug spares no legally permissible detail, and his stories couldn't be told any other way. They're weird, uncomfortable, gross, disturbing, and fucking funny.

This Is Not Fame is by no means a story of overcoming a life of excess, immorality, and reckless buffoonery. It's an outright celebration of it. For Stanhope, the party goes on.

Chad Shank

Really enjoyed Chad Shank, great voice and delivery.... oh and Doug Stanhope was reasonably okay-ish.

Honest as it gets!

Doug seemed to drink way less in this book during the reading, so the flow is a lot more smooth and steady. He should uave told that one story but didn't, but there was that other story that made up for it. Very great listen, i couldn't imagine reading it. Reading is for people with time on their hands, like lazy people.

WOW!!!

I never knew a worthless drunk could create such an awesome book! it gives me hope for myself!!! one of my all time favorite books! It was even better than your last book. maybe because it didn't end in your mother dying... it's on my bucket list to go find the little town that you should be mayor of.

The extras are whats worth it.

I am a big fan of Doug Stanhope, and the best part about buying the audio is the fsct that he includes so much more in the audio book version. You get a chance to hear extra stories and tidbits that arent included in the book, or explanations of things for clarity. You get the full book and more.

the opposite of Jordan Peterson

The anti hero's hero shares some of the funniest stories ever told and truer than your bible. Doug's not trying to tell you how to live he's allowing us to laugh at and with him at his tales of being a fuck up.

Gourmet dog leg

Excellent reading by Chad Shank and Mr Stanhope, as well as the occasional podcast style talks with actual people from the stories.

Stanhopes audiobook commentary is the best

Stanhope adds commentary with the people from the stories that makes the book even better. Chad Shank with the golden pipes should be the only person audible allows to read all their books

So, so great.

Helpful hint: don’t listen on planes because the person next to you will look at you like you’re insane from laughing so hard by yourself.

Funny Funny Funny

Doug Stanhope - a marmite comedian. Either you love him or you find him a complete reprobate. What cannot be denied is his absolute searing honesty about his own life and the world. This is truly laugh out loud funny though often shocking and outrageous. Stanhope offers a unique perspective on the world that is engaging and interesting - whether you like it or not. Great performances all round .

Enjoyable

if you like Stanhope's brand of dishevelled honesty, this will make you laugh at loud at times. It lacks the narrative thread of Digging Up Mother though. More closely resembles a polished, extended version of his pod cast, with many anecdotes of scrapes gone by.

vibrating rubber f*@k-my-face

another great insight into the life of the barstool barnacle that is Stanhope. listening to himself and his cohorts recant tales of his debauched past is almost like being present at the funhouse on a drug and alcohol fuelled trip of reminiscence. since I was first introduced to Doug what seems like a livers lifetime ago with his 'across the street' bootleg I'd torrented, I've been enamoured with everything he has created, including I think his best work 'baiting paedophiles' I look forward to his upcoming stand up shows and any other tomes in the future.
stay rock n roll Doug!!

A literary masterpiece, stunning audio commentary

Not listened? Then you might as well be dead! Now being told I need at least 15 words for a review, there, that should do it.

Another fantastic listen

I held off on reading the physical book in the hopes that this would happen. Well here it is and it's a delightful listen. All the asides, tangents and additional details peppered throughout this audio book makes it an invaluable addition to your Stanhope collection. Doug is on point and is obviously having tons of fun regaling us with all the crazy antics he and his friends has been up to over the years.

Don't miss this.

As soon as I finish this I'm totally reading the paper book as well. If nothing else just so I can hold it up in public and possibly annoy someone.

Thanks Doug. Never stop being you.

Doug Stanhope at his best!

An hilarious collection of moments from Doug's life... all the better in Audiobook form due to the interjection of people present when the events occurred... narrators equally as unreliable as Doug.

Put the kids, and your partner, to bed... have a beer or two and just enjoy the ride!

Classic Stanhope

Loved every minute. Hilarious and insightful as usual. I’m glad I waited for the audio version as there are plenty of extras and guests to enjoy in addition to the actual text.
