Publisher's summary

Road Dog is comedian, actor, and writer, Dov Davidoff's unflinching memoir told through reflections of twelve months on the road. Davidoff travels across the country from college campuses to local theaters doing stand-up comedy and telling it like it is. He's been known to wax poetic about everything from encounters with large fake breasts, to people who have too many kids, to magnum condoms the size of CD cases. He is hilarious and relatable and will have you laughing at yourself in no time.

But there's more to the road dog life than TV features and sold out comedy shows, there's a dark underbelly and Dov knows it well. His memoir chronicles the highs and often very low lows of performance life with honesty, clarity, and humility. Dov takes listeners from his fractured childhood days spent in a New Jersey junkyard with a gruff Jewish father and commune-loving hippie Protestant mother to the intense hyperactive persona that his fans know and expect discussing the relationships, drugs, and demons that he has fought along the way. With an eye for self-reflection, and a penchant for hilarious irony, Dov pulls back the curtain on a life hard-made on the road.

Easily the most insightful book I've ever read

I've been a fan of Dov Davidoff ever since I first saw his stand-up. Dov has a natural gift for being able to see people and the situations we put ourselves into in a unique and revealing light. His book is full of deep and painful personal revelations and experiences from his childhood on through his adult life, and listening to him read it you can feel the emotion and depth behind every single word. He speaks and writes from the perspective of one who is always been an outsider, a loner, an outcast, and who has spent his life desperately trying to be a part of what he sees everyone else being a part of, while simultaneously being able to see anything and everything as only an outsider can. This book spoke to me, and moved me, and even brought me to tears at the very end. This will be something that I carry with me and listen to the rest of my life. It is powerful, deep, and absolutely worth a read no matter what price you pay to be able to do so.

Not what I was expecting but great!

I am not sure what I was expecting but it wasn’t this. This book made me laugh but it also made me think. It’s a very personal look into a very talented comic. I love the style Dov used to convey his inner demons and outlook on the ridiculousness that he finds in his personal journey. I highly recommend.

dark, real, & exceptional

Really gives you a perspective into someone else's personal life battle and how we all have demons to overcome.

Unexpectedly Insightful and poetic

This dude was born to be a writer. Happened upon his comedic work through Bryan Callen, thankful for it and would have never guessed the life he’s lived. Wild. Deeply felt and surprisingly unrepressed. Lifelong fan now!

A book to pass on.

Just pointless bable, really a long winded road to nothing. Maybe would be better in a cartoon voice.
