What happened to Brigitte Berthold?

That question has haunted Daniel Knight since he was 13, when he and 10-year-old Brigitte escaped the Gestapo agents who arrested both their parents. They survived a harrowing journey from Germany to England, only to be separated upon their arrival. Daniel vowed to find Brigitte after the war, a promise he has fought to fulfill for more than 70 years.

Now a wealthy old man, Daniel's final hope in finding Brigitte rests with Quenby Vaughn, an American journalist working in London. He believes Quenby's tenacity to find missing people and her personal investment in a related WWII espionage story will help her succeed where previous investigators have failed. Though Quenby is wrestling her own demons - and wary at the idea of teaming up with Daniel's lawyer, Lucas Hough - the lure of Brigitte's story is too much to resist. Together, Quenby and Lucas delve deep into the past, following a trail of deception, sacrifice, and healing that could change all of their futures.

Surprise ending...

We thoroughly enjoyed this book! It kept us "turning each page" with anticipation and excitement. The story was presented surpurbly with the two story lines of past and present not detracting from the whole of the book. The author slowly knitted the two lines together until they became one--like two lonely footpaths merging into one as they emerge from the woods.
The combination of historical circumstance, never ending love, and a reverence for Christ's forgiveness and redemption made this book a gem to read (or listen to). Nancy did a fine job of performing this narrative! She kept us on the edge of our seats... great job! We loved the surprise ending and we were happy with the outcome... who would not love this book!

Masterpiece of storytelling tapestry

Wow. Wow. Wow. This story blew me away. Author Melanie Dobson beautifully weaves several story lines and keeps you wanting more. I am just as fascinated with the stories of children post-war now as ever.

Narrator Nancy Peterson does a fabulous job keeping the listener in the moment. She handles the various accents with ease. Her style and voice are a perfect fit to compliment the fantastic writing of Ms. Dobson.

Bravo!

The Mystery of True Identity Revealed

The story is surrounded by captivating characters that belong to World War II and continue to the present. All of the characters so different and yet intertwined. A great read from a seasoned narrator, which will keep you engaged through Dobson's brilliant story.

A beautiful story of redemption!!!

This is my first foray into historical fiction, and I doubt there could have been a better introduction for me! The tapestry woven in this narrative is simply wonderful!

There’s something about the way Melanie Dobson told a story out of the past entwined with people seeking it out in the present that made me feel like I was there breathing the same air as these characters at every moment.

I think though, a large part of that intimacy with this story comes from the incredible performance of Nancy Peterson. Her voice draws you in - gently captivating your heart - making you feel these characters are very much real. I also cant get over her skill with these accents!

I loved everything about this tale, and binged the last 4.5 hours straight; desperate to know what happens. I wasn’t disappointed!!!

Good Historical Mystery, Bad Romance

I love a good mystery, and I love historical fiction, so I was prepared to love this book. However, I just "like" it.

This is a story within a story. A journalist has been writing an article about British citizens who collaborated with the Nazis in WWII. Then her story is cancelled, and a rich private citizen hires her to find his lost best friend, lost when they were fleeing the Nazis. The journalist agrees to do this, and discovers that the stories overlap. The rich man assigns his lawyer to assist the journalist, and romance enters the book.

I was engaged, and I wanted to find out the truth and to follow these characters into the past and the future, but ...

Two things bothered me: the narrator has that whispery, sexy style that irritates me, and the romance portion of the story was unsophisticated. ("Why did he have to have eyes the color of cappuccino?" ... not an exact quote, but that was the level of YA writing that described the romance.)

The writing style Ms. Dobson used for the historical mystery was mature and enjoyable.

NOTE: "Catching Wind" is published by a company that prints Christian-based books. If you are not Christian, the theme is not overwhelming or off-putting. But I didn't expect it, and it took me a bit by surprise.
