In this gripping WWII time-slip novel from the author whose books have been called “propulsive” and a “must-read” (Publishers Weekly), Grace Tonquin is an American Quaker who works tirelessly in Vichy France to rescue Jewish children from the Nazis. After crossing the treacherous Pyrénées, Grace returns home to Oregon with a brother and sister whose parents were lost during the war. Though Grace and her husband love Élias and Marguerite as their own, echoes of Grace’s past and trauma from the Holocaust tear the Tonquin family apart.

More than 50 years after they disappear, Addie Hoult arrives at Tonquin Lake, hoping to find the Tonquin family. For Addie, the mystery is a matter of life and death for her beloved mentor Charlie, who is battling a genetic disease. Though Charlie refuses to discuss his ties to the elusive Tonquins, finding them is the only way to save his life and mend the wounds from his broken past.

I gave this story 4 stars instead of 5 because it went on too long.

The will to survive, the ability to forgive, and the need for redemption will keep you listening to end and then wanting more. Melanie Dodson does a wonderful job of making you feel so many emotions.

A Must Read

the sample starts with the story beginning in 1943 France during world war II. I was intrigued but then disappointed when most of the story did not take place during world war II.
it's a heartwarming story with the language is a little too flowery for my taste.
also, I'm not a very religious person so the religion in the story was a bit much for me.
I would give it three and a half Stars if I could but the app only allows whole numbers :-)

a little disappointed

We all need to know about the power of love and forgiveness. They start with the Savior and work through the characters in amazing ways!

Another unforgettable WWII split time novel from one of my favorite authors. Raw, honest characters who sacrificed for others and learned to rely on God’s strength and guidance. Heartbreaking yet uplifting. I’ll be thinking about this beautiful story for a long time. I already miss the characters. And I’m always encouraged in my faith by one of Dobson’s novels. Great narration too.

An exquisite story all around!

I stumbled across this author. It's really hard to find clean books with no profanity or inappropriate sexual content in the audible catalog. However, this author has managed to create a gripping story without the profanity some authors prefer to use. The book is also centered around Christian values. I know this will turn some people off however you will miss a great story if you reject the book because of the morality aspect. I've purchased 4 books so far and will continue to purchase more from this author. The narration is top notch also.

Great Read!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Story very predictable. More in present, then historical. Didn’t care for narrator. I am Christian, but found this book very preachy.

Meh

I generally liked the story, but found there was too much talk about Jesus, especially in a book that was about saving Jewish children. I didn't look at the reviews before I purchased the book, but I guess that I should have. It's a bit bothersome to be saving Jewish children but then not honor their religion when you continue to raise them...

story would be better with less Jesus

Enjoyed this book, and how the family came together . Also appreciate the Christian aspects of the story.

Winter Rose is a very good listen

Excellent books! I think some Reviewer’s don’t understand Quaker’s are very strong in FAITH, so there’s going to be a lot of FAITH woven into the time slip. Sometimes I have to laugh at reviews. If the Author tells me the premise and they deliver that, then I’m satisfied.
