Why is it so hard to make lasting changes in our companies, in our communities, and in our own lives? The primary obstacle is a conflict that's built into our brains, say Chip and Dan Heath, authors of the critically acclaimed best seller Made to Stick. Psychologists have discovered that our minds are ruled by two different systems - the rational mind and the emotional mind - that compete for control. The rational mind wants a great beach body; the emotional mind wants that Oreo cookie.

Every moment in our life happens only once, and if we let it slip away, we lose it forever - an idea captured by the Japanese phrase ichigo ichie (pronounced itchy-GO itchy-A). Often spoken in Japan when greeting someone or saying goodbye, to convey that the encounter is unique and special, it is a tenet of Zen Buddhism and is attributed to a 16th-century master of the Japanese tea ceremony, or "ceremony of attention", whose intricate rituals compel us to focus on the present moment.

Story
One afternoon - after another failed attempt to get motivated to exercise - I (accidentally) started my first mini habit. I initially committed to do one push-up, and it turned into a full workout. I was shocked. This "stupid idea" wasn't supposed to work. I was shocked again when my success with this strategy continued for months (and to this day). I had to consider that maybe I wasn't the problem in those 10 years of mediocre results. Maybe it was my prior strategies that were ineffective, despite being oft-repeated as "the way to change" in countless books.

Priceless
Very important concept. The way of the future in a world of growing population, technology and limited resources. It is also an invitation to the forgotten virtues of self discipline, frugality and the work well done. Should be taught in high school.

A must for anyone that wants to achieve.
Would you consider the audio edition of The Spirit of Kaizen to be better than the print version?
Yes and No. This is a great book regardless of how you get the information. Most important is to get this information that develops yourself, organization, and your team. Provides endless examples of team approach, how to get the best out of yourself and others, how to prepare for whatever you want to accomplish. This is a well put together book.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
The UltimateTeam for Progress
Any additional comments?

The First Step
This is a great book on Kaizen that everyone interested in the subject should read. Its short length is true to what the book teaches. If you are having a difficult time getting started on something, think of an even smaller and easier step to take toward that goal. Once you start building these steps up to larger ones, you will begin making significant changes without your mind's natural alarm bells going off.
The book is full of specific examples and lessons learned. It is short and painless but full of content that eases you in to the methodology. Kaizen can help in all aspects of life and while reading this book you will likely begin making subtle positive changes all around you.
