Great narrator!

If you’ve listened to books by Disney Press before, how does this one compare?

Much better narration than some other Disnay Press books. The story line itself is not my favorite.

What does Lucy Rayner bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Excellent accents and inflection!! The way she reads brings up vivid mental images of the action, people and places.

Any additional comments?

I really don't like Merida's attitude, and don't want my young girls to mirror it. They are too young to comprehend her feelings and relationship with her mother, and to them she just comes across as vindictive and mean. I think this book is better suited to older children with understanding of the cultural differences in attitudes and expectations of different times and places. Otherwise, it's just a spoiled girl taking revenge on her mother, not a mother and daughter gaining understanding of each other through hardship.

no love is greater than mother and daughter .

a great book for young ladies to read as having problems with their parents especially their mother and how they can see their way through as they get older NC the real world to their mother's eyes

Adaptation and Performance Top Notch

My seven year-old has requested this one at least a couple times now. Very well adaptation of the movie. Rayner's performance is a real treat. Highly recommend.

Exceptional Story

This story is so deep. It addresses perfectionism and how parents tend to overlook the identities of their children justified by the thought that they are looking out for the child's future and doing what is best. It points out beautifully how our refusal to listen is at the heart of our disconnection and how we must reconnect in order to find the happiness we so desperately crave and need. It is not a history story, since obviously women did not have choices during the time period. It is a modern story set in this backdrop, which is fine. I missed all this while watching the movie because I identified with the mother, but listening to the audiobook I heard the daughter and realized the things I need to do and ways I contribute to our disconnection. It is an awesome audiobook. Listen to it, especially if you've watched the movie. It follows it exactly, but you will hear it a new way, new things stand out and you will fall in love with it all over again. Well, maybe you won't, but I did.

Watch the movie again, will be a better use of time

First off, let's begin by saying I wasn't a huge fan of the movie BRAVE .. I mean, it did have a nice idea and a great concept about family but the story itself wasn't that interesting for me in general.. that being said if you really liked the movie I would suggest you watch it again because the book wasn't as enjoyable as the movie .. so yeah, I LOVE the Junior Novelization series and I do plan to read more in the future .. but this one wasn't for me I guess
