Publisher's Summary

Before Liz Lemon, before "Weekend Update", before "Sarah Palin", Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: a recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV.

She has seen both of those dreams come true.

At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live; from her passionately halfhearted pursuit of physical beauty to her life as a mother eating things off the floor; from her one-sided college romance to her nearly fatal honeymoon - from the beginning of this paragraph to this final sentence.

Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've all suspected: you're no one until someone calls you bossy.

Includes special, never-before-solicited opinions on breastfeeding, princesses, Photoshop, the electoral process, and Italian rum cake!

Clueless City Girl

I expected a few laughs from Tina, maybe even some behind the scenes gossip. Nothing. This woman gets her kicks from working in New York City. I find that sad. A great read for like minded career women who enjoy city life.

Not what I hoped

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Not really, it just wasn't as good as I thought, but it wasn't necessarily bad. I Love Tina but I'm not a huge fan, I didn't want 30 rock regularly anyway. I think you have to really love 30 Rock to love the book as the book was mostly about the show and how she made it big and did the show. I love that she's such a modern day women's libber.

I wish she would have told us how her face got slashed. She shouldn't have even brought it up. I never even noticed her scar before. It was a teaser.

Mediocre

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No

Any additional comments?

Tina Fey has a weird obsession with a woman's ---- (not sure it's appropriate to name the private part). The story of 30 Rock was great. Beyond that, it was pretty mediocre and I didn't laugh as much as I expected. It was a disappointment.

Could not relate

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book would be interesting and entertaining to middle age women and anyone who like New York. If you are not in those two groups, you may not relate to the story very well. Tina Fey's overview of her life describes an average woman looking at life choices from a privileged point of view. There were jokes in the book but it is not a comedy book, it is a biography with snarky comments.

Disappointed

What disappointed you about Bossypants?

Great on SNL, great on 30 Rock, but really disappointing in print. I expected to laugh until I cried, but only moaned. Sorry, Tina.

Not for me

I love Tina Fey but could not finish the book. Some stories dragged on and on. The novelty of her narration wore off quite quickly. Wish I could have returned the book before the expiry date.

Just didn't get all the humor.

I did not realize that this book was written much more for a female audience.

Not awfully funny--maybe you have to be a fan…

I'm not a regular fan of Ms. Fey, not a regular viewer of SNL or 30 Rock. That may be a prerequisite for enjoying this book. Many of the reviews here describe lots of laugh-out-loud moments. At the most there were a few chuckles.

Some typical magazine article riffs on being the theater kid in high school, new motherhood and whether to breast-feed the baby, etc.

If you want detailed descriptions of putting together episodes of SNL or 30 Rock, then there is some of that. There were a few pages about the rules of improv that I found interesting, but on the whole it's actually pretty boring.
