Publisher's Summary

Before Liz Lemon, before "Weekend Update", before "Sarah Palin", Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: a recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV.

She has seen both of those dreams come true.

At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live; from her passionately halfhearted pursuit of physical beauty to her life as a mother eating things off the floor; from her one-sided college romance to her nearly fatal honeymoon - from the beginning of this paragraph to this final sentence.

Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've all suspected: you're no one until someone calls you bossy.

Includes special, never-before-solicited opinions on breastfeeding, princesses, Photoshop, the electoral process, and Italian rum cake!

Could not relate

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book would be interesting and entertaining to middle age women and anyone who like New York. If you are not in those two groups, you may not relate to the story very well. Tina Fey's overview of her life describes an average woman looking at life choices from a privileged point of view. There were jokes in the book but it is not a comedy book, it is a biography with snarky comments.

I expected more, actually.

What did you like best about Bossypants? What did you like least?

Tina was funny, but not as funny as I had expected. What is your target audience, Tina? I couldn't find myself in it. A little heavy on the feminism preaching, but I get it. Also, the editor dropped the ball by allowing Tina to begin talking rapidly at the end of some phrases for the effect of muttering under her breath. It was impossible to understand these phrases.

What was most disappointing about Tina Fey’s story?

Nothing was really disappointing, although some parts lacked substance. I expected to laugh out loud more than once. I didn't.

What three words best describe Tina Fey’s voice?

Kitten with whip.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Nope.

Just didn't get all the humor.

I did not realize that this book was written much more for a female audience.

kind of boring

What did you like best about Bossypants? What did you like least?

I guess I expected it to be more entertaining than it actually was.

Has Bossypants turned you off from other books in this genre?

No

Which scene was your favorite?

I don't know

Was Bossypants worth the listening time?

I guess.

Any additional comments?

Meh

Abandoned

I listened for 1 hour and never laughed once. From all the reviews I read, I thought it was going to be a romp full of great laughs. But for me, it was a yawn.

Can't anyone be funny without swearing? :(

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I didn't make it through the book...in fact I didn't listen to very much at all. I have small children and I prefer not to have swearing and F-bombs pop out while I'm listening in the house with them. So I'm sure that won't bother most, obviously she is very popular and good at what she does....it's just not for me. Wish I had returned the book when I could have. Oh well.

Not funny

I just didn’t laugh for the number two comedy book. Guess it wasn’t for me.

Not awfully funny--maybe you have to be a fan…

I'm not a regular fan of Ms. Fey, not a regular viewer of SNL or 30 Rock. That may be a prerequisite for enjoying this book. Many of the reviews here describe lots of laugh-out-loud moments. At the most there were a few chuckles.

Some typical magazine article riffs on being the theater kid in high school, new motherhood and whether to breast-feed the baby, etc.

If you want detailed descriptions of putting together episodes of SNL or 30 Rock, then there is some of that. There were a few pages about the rules of improv that I found interesting, but on the whole it's actually pretty boring.

Observed

Did not finish. Talked too fast and too much detail. Got bored.
