Publisher's summary

Ben Franklin's own lively story of his early years is a unique, fascinating, and influential look at this American founding father. It has been taught in schools as a moral tract, as a guide to self-improvement, and as the Great American Success Story. It also is relished both for its insight into colonial life and the mind of the man who most affected the development of our democratic form of government. Finally, it is savored for its language; Franklin's wit, his well-turned phrase, and his humanity shine through.

Outstanding narration

Would you consider the audio edition of The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin to be better than the print version?

Yes, because this narrator was so expressive as Ben that it was as if I was listening to the actual Benjamin Franklin telling me his story.

Which character – as performed by Fredd Wayne – was your favorite?

He WAS Benjamin Franklin.

What Happened to the Balance if Franklin’s Life???

Very much interested in Franklin’ s life I listened carefully to the narrative. It stopped while Franklin was in England getting royal permission to tax the proprietors. Very unsatisfactory. :(

Sketch of A Singular Patriot in the Making

In his own words, which are droll and heartwarming at once, Mssr. Franklin told of his Colonial coming-of-age and adult life. Bringing to mind that Founding Fatherly discourse that have caused so many over the centuries to love him above all, save perhaps Washington.

Fascinating and very important to American history

I actually wrestled with whether or not I should give this 3 or 4 stars. Some of it was boring to me, while others were intriguing and interesting. But Franklin was so amazing as a human being and so brilliant a mind that it was fascinating to learn about him. His writing is exceptional It is hard to believe that this man lived over 250 years ago. He was absolutely genius, he was a humanitarian, he was a great mind who never stopped trying to better himself, to learn more, and to understand other human beings. I am glad I read this because I really didn't know much about him and I certainly did next expect to be so in awe of his endless accomplishments which go far beyond this book.

This is his life in his own words. Apparently his grandson who ultimately owned the rights to Franklin's autobiography , released a version of it with nearly 1200 of his own edits. Fortunately, there existed copies of the original version. If you read this, be sure you get the right one. I recommend this book. I read it and also listened to the well narrated audio book.

Great Work

Timeless words of wisdom written many years ago but still apply today. Unfortunately many of our leaders today lack BF integrity.

Wonderful history and interesting look at Franklin

My only complaint is where it ended, but apparently that is where Franklin stood writing. I found it fascinating to compare the first part, written when he was much younger, to the last. Ideology tempered by even more experience. We’ll worth the listen.
