Publisher's summary

The Omega War is over, but conflict continues.

The Peacemaker-enforced ceasefire brought an end to the hostilities, but the Mercenary Guild’s moratorium on new contracts has given the other guilds time - and freedom - to redress long-standing grievances. It has also led to a mindset of “while the cat’s away, the mice will play”, and many are taking liberties they wouldn't have normally.

On Earth, the Golden Horde continues to rebuild, because Sansar Enkh has a good idea of what’s coming. In addition to rebuilding her forces, she knows the Humans will need all the advanced tech they can get their hands on, so she sends Captain Markus “Spartan” Nicolos to search the home world of the SalSha for remnants of Kahraman tech.

The mission is a two-pronged one, as the SalSha leader Thorb needs to return to the world of his birth to recruit new pilots for his war-depleted bomber wing. He also needs to stop along the way at Capital Planet in hopes of getting the SalSha recognized as a mercenary race.

Nothing is as it seems, though, and forces are jockeying in the shadows for power, through all means possible - both legal and not. The team of Spartan and Thorb leave Earth heavily armed and armored...but will it be enough?

Pretty good series but starting to get a bit stale

I like this series for several reasons. The characters are fun if a bit shallow and the events are creative yet also no-nonsense in terms of just get stuff done mentality.

That said, it's kind of slowing down for me. I think it's a combination of things from the plots to the narrator who does do a good job for the most part. Yet some of his voices are a bit, I dunno...lacking? I have a hard time putting my finger on it. I've listened to him on other works and enjoy his work...I don't know, it's just not quite working for me here any longer *shrug*

Disappointed

I have read or listen to most of the books in this and the other series for me to do it. This one disappointed me greatly. First don’t change voice actors with characters people who used to hearing how your character sounds from previous book. The story was meh at best.

Great Four Horsemen story as usual, but...

I really enjoy these books, and this one was no exception, However a lack of attention to continuity in the narration of one particularly well established character, made me want to read it rather than listen to it.

I have no idea what process the producers go through when make these audiobooks, but I assumed an established character, previously seen as the focal point of a few novels, and as a supporting character in several novels and short stories, would have required a narrator to continue voicing the character in the same style, or as close as practical. Previously the character has always spoken a in a generic sounding light American English voice. Someone has chosen to give the character a deep Greek or Mediterranean accented voice.

Surely this lack of continuity should not happen. I understand they cannot always get the same narrator and Todd McLaren has done a great job with many books, with stellar perfomances.

I don't know whether someone snuck the Greek waiter from Shirley Valentine in to speak that particular part, on that day, or if it is a production error.

Good listen

Great plot and delivery as usual, needs re editing, 15+ mistakes in edit which pulled me back out of the story trance a little more than expected.
