As he tries to earn his place amongst the ship, Zade's combat prowess quickly earns him a spot as the security officer of the ship. A seat left vacant because of a fatal exchange between the former security officer and the wildlife of a far planet. As Zade begins living the adrenaline filled life of a space explorer, he has to ask himself some very important questions.

How does he get back to earth? Does he even want to?

This had a good beginning...

I really like how this book started out. It had a good take on an alien invasion and I thought it would get better. It had some things that to me were a little far fetched, I know it is science fiction and I can look past that. It is just, that, after so many it kinda adds up. I will listen to the next book however because it wasn't so bad that I didn't like the characters even if I had issues with some of it being a bit far fetched.

I wasn't sure about it when I started but by the end I was bummed it was over

good old fashioned sci fi

a little simple at times but that's a good thing. it gets you into the fun and action without thirty hours of background about how the science works, interesting species and fun interactions make it an A+

Like the concept and the world exceptional structure and like the MMORPG style. If you like this type of storytelling get all te books. I hope we get the 4 book soon.

Really good story, enjoyable for many reasons

This is the first work I have read by this author, but I am grateful for finding him! This story is in many ways formulaic in the classic “Human runs into aliens” scenario we find on many of this type of book. Some of the technology seems almost a little too easy to come by, but not overly so. There is enough conflict present to more than make up for it. There also is some humor involved in it too which I always enjoy in this genre. I am looking forward to listening to more of this series and author. Also, narration is very good in this book too with very few mispronunciations.

A first entry with serious potential.

As my first book from this author i think the series has copious amounts of potential.
Legitimately gave me expeditionary force vibes at times, with a number of significant differences to setting and setup. And so, i really hope the following books will fulfill at least some of that potential and really just take off and run with it.

Braun provides a solid voicing of the cast of characters. With the script provided i think he did a stellar job.
Will give his future books due consideration.

The author however has a great deal of room for growth, especially when it comes to his conversational writing as well as how he describes everything from environments to thoughts and moments of decision making.

Nitpicks;
Parts of the book read like a military brief written by someone who's a little to used to relying on buzzwords for filling out paragraphs. My main issue is his reliance on the word "mode" and his seeming reluctance to show the reader, and thus his overuse of telling the reader.
I dont think the audience needs to know that a character(human btw) has gone into "trouble solving mode" or "tactical mode", ever.

I will be checking out the next couple of entries of the series.

Interesting

I liked the voice of the narrator. It seemed to start slow but picked up speed once the main character from earth got on the space ship.
Characters took a while to develop but then again they r aliens. Liked the ending.
