The story

Quillon Drask is a haunted man, wrestling with the daemons of his past. With a reputation that draws only the strangest cases, he is intimately familiar with the malevolent underbelly of Varangantua. Yet nothing that has gone before could have prepared the probator for the horrors which now blight the district of Polaris.

Faced with a savage crime with frightening implications, Drask is thrust into a game of corruption and conspiracy, warring families and blasphemous revelations. Only by mastering the bitter lessons of his career and his own tortured past can Drask hope to bring the perpetrators to justice, and curb the monstrous hunger which stalks the city.

What if wealthy, and Khorne?

VA did a good job seperating the cast
Story was good, didn't quite fit a well worn crime noir theme, but framed enough elements of a couple of to make it work.
Chapters are pretty brisk, there is only one that kinda pinned me down, but it was long for a reason.

Such a great group of characters! The scene with the priest was just wicked. Great writing and top tier narration.

I liked the setting and the ever-deepening conspiracy in every chapter. Very dark Warhammer noir.

Grim investigation in the 41st millenium

Grim Repast is a solid entry into the grimdark world of Warhammer 40,000, offering a story that may not reinvent the wheel, but still delivers a compelling and worthwhile experience.

At the heart of the novel is a flawed yet engaging protagonist, whose perspective carries the narrative effectively.

While the overall plot doesn’t break new ground, where Grim Repast really shines is in its exploration of hive worlds. The novel leans into the oppressive atmosphere, the social decay, and the everyday brutality of life in these massive urban sprawls. It adds texture to the Warhammer 40K universe by focusing less on grand battles and more on the lived experience within the Imperium’s underbelly.

This shift in perspective is what gives the story its value. It expands the setting in a meaningful way, showing that the horror of 40K isn’t just found on the battlefield, but in the systems and structures that govern daily life.

Overall, it's a strong, character-driven story that enriches the setting. It may not be the most original tale, but its atmosphere, perspective, and grounded approach make it a worthwhile read for anyone interested in the darker corners of the 40K universe.

great narration decent story

The performance is great. The story isn't bad but fairly heavy on repetitive metaphors that can get a little tedious.
