A Warhammer 40,000 Novel

The renegade leader of the Red Corsairs must adapt to an Imperium led by Roboute Guilliman, all while struggling to retain power in the face of dissension among his vicious followers.

Listen because...

See how the galaxy has changed for the Red Corsairs after the Great Rift, through the eyes of their infamous reaving leader—Huron Blackheart—who once preyed freely on a weakened Imperium.

The story:

Huron Blackheart is the lord of the Red Corsairs, master of the lawless Maelstrom and its piratical denizens—but oathbreakers and renegades can seldom rely on the loyalty of their followers. With the galaxy thrown into turmoil by the return of Roboute Guilliman, the former Tyrant of Badab faces a renewed Imperium and fresh challengers emerging within his own ranks. Huron must call on every trick he knows to stay in control—and alive. Yet even a warrior as ferocious and opportunistic as the Blood Reaver must be wary, for although there are many bargains he can strike, all power comes at a price....

Written by Mike Brooks. Narrated by Andrew Wincott. Running time 6 hours and 24 minutes.

Oh my god, Huron is a Badass

This story tells itself absolutely beautifully with amazing Narration, it also shows why the Red Corsairs or more particularly, Huron Blackheart is a force to be reckoned with even by the forces of the imperium.

Simply Awesome

Honestly one of the best WH books I’ve read in awhile, and easily better than most of the post-rift Primaris books. It’s not a long book but the pacing is good and it doesn’t get bogged down. It also covers some major events and advances the overall story. Unlike many WH books it’s not a bait and switch where most of the POV isn’t even the main character. The only other character is a magos that’s pretty interesting. I think the interplay between traitor marines is particularly well done also. The narration by Andrew Wincott is fantastic for traitor marines, he’s easily a new favorite. Definitely don’t pass this one up!

Great performance and story.

Some of the characters felt a bit extra. Like the techpriest in it, she was fine, but would have rather more time on some of the marines.

Awesome short story

I read this book for our local Warhammer book club, not having read much about Chaos Marines. To keep it short, I have a much better understanding as to why so many people love to read about characters like Huron. Great narrator, and super fun to listen too. Non stop action the whole story. Give it a try.

Who is Huron? Or rather… what?

One of the most well narrated and well written of all of Black Library’s various tales I’ve read over the years. The performance was IMMACULATE. I cannot recommend the narrator nor the tale enough. If you have even a cursory interest in the Pirate King of Chaos in the 41st millennium, give this a whirl.

Great Narrator! Short and decent story.

Chaos Space Marine leadership can be cutthroat and be on constant guard. It felt like Huron had to play too many mind games either to avoid petty slights or give petty slights back to his subordinates. It made it seem that his position of power was just one small mistake of words to those under him that it kind of robbed him of any power or influence to make him as cool as he could of been. There were some cool parts but it just seemed like he was constantly worried to me that took away from him being as charismatic of a leader as I thought of him before I listened to the book. Book was kind of short. Narrator was great! I will be on the look out for if he narrates any other black library novels.

Lot's of Huron.

Fun, fluffy 40k book, most of the book is actually from the main characters POV. Ties in with current 40k lore, and lots of Huron, and the Red Corsairs. I wish Kharn had received as good of treatment as Huron gets in this book.
