Publisher's summary

A funny, sexy, and emotionally riveting stand-alone contemporary romance by New York Times best-selling author Melissa Foster. Running on Diesel is the perfect love story for those who enjoy fiercely loyal and insanely sexy alpha heroes, smart, sassy heroines, strong family bonds, bikers, babies, and more!

Desmond “Diesel” Black is a Nomad with the Dark Knights motorcycle club. He protects others with his life and always rides alone. Tracey Kline left the only family she had for a man who broke more than her spirit, leaving her untrusting and on her own. When a twist of fate reveals pieces of the other no one else sees, will they be able to help each other mend their past hurts and learn to trust the chemistry and connection that’s too strong to deny?

The Whiskeys are perfect beach reads with depth of story, strong family ties, and a wealth of emotions. Small-town love stories with happily ever afters guaranteed. The Dark Knights motorcycle club is not a typical MC book. These bad-boy bikers are tough, but they have hearts of gold...and they're not afraid to use them.

Rough, Gruff, and Amazing!

Oh, Diesel. I've had a thing for this man if no words since we first met him. He had the quiet mystery about him that just made you want to know more, more, more. And this book cover!?? Holy hotness!

I loved how Traci calls him "Unleaded", I got the best laugh with that name because Diesel just doesn't feel like the type of gruff biker who does nicknames like that. She just knew how to get under his skin. Diesel is a protector, first and foremost, and we see it in everything he does. But he protects his heart the most. The way he took care of Traci after her altercation was sooooo good. He just held her. That right there is just, *sigh*. That's my man!

I really loved when the story moved on to Diesel sprinting away last minute to Colorado to seek answers. The Colorado characters are a whole new (well, we've recently met them here and there) bunch of characters that I absolutely fell in love with! I didn't actually see the story going in that direction and was pleasantly surprised!

But that ending?? Gaaah! My heart! I never thought I'd ever see that big, tough guy open his heart like that and promise forever to his girl. Never. Love it!!

I devoured this story solely in audio and the narrators did a fabulous job on both characters, but I really feel they outdid themselves on the secondary characters. The voices were phenomenal. You never questioned who was talking.

Great story

I loved this story by Melissa Foster and narrated wonderfully by Jacob Morgan and Savannah Peachwood who brought the story and characters to life for me. I loved their performances of Diesel and Tracey and how their emotions came across. Loved seeing the Whiskeys again.

This book moved along nicely. I loved the male perspective. The humor was great. The back story was informative without taking away form the love story. 5 stars all the way and I will be listening to many more. Thank you for sharing a great story.

Diesel and Tracey - all the growly swoons

This is great story about loss, rebuilding, and continuing to find joy in living. It is brutally beautiful and has a wonderful blend of sweet, sexy, sorrowful, and uplifting. Diesel and Tracey’s love story has all the feels - expect to laugh, cry, swoon, grit your teeth, gasp, and have your heart squeezed. Diesel lost his mother to cancer as a young man. And while he is a Dark Knight, he is also a nomad not affiliated with any specific branch. He travels for work and rarely stays one place long refusing to put down roots. Tracey fled an abusive relationship and found her way to Parkvale Women’s Shelter where she met the Whiskeys. When Tracey is given a job at the Whiskey’s bar, the matriarch of the family asks Diesel to keep an eye on her. As a result, Diesel has been in one place for two years and continuously resisting the pull of Tracey. When Tracey is attacked, their relationship shifts and the journey to their HEA speeds up. The book shows the dark side of grief and trauma but also brings in the light of healing and redemption. All of Melissa Foster’s books have a central theme of family - those we are born into and those we create. This book is no different. The Dark Knights love hard and they love by surrounding you with goodness and strength. Throughout this beautifully paced story of Diesel and Tracey’s HEA, they each have to deal with their difficult and painful pasts, the scars that resulted, and their fear of the future. This is Book 9 of the Whiskeys, Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor series and I cannot wait to read which family member I am going to fall in love with next.

Savannah Peachwood and Jacob Morgan did a phenomenal job narrating the story and characters into life with enough change of inflection, tone and cadence to voice multiple characters quite convincingly. I really love the added dimension listening to the characters rings to a story.

Enjoyable story.

I enjoyed this series so much. I love stories like these, the whole book has my attention and I got nothing done because I couldn’t stop thinking about the story, the characters and where the plot of the story was going. I fell in love with Melissa Foster’s books after a reader friend’s recommendation, I’m so glad I listened. Great series not to be missed.

broody biker finds his home

Tracy escaped an abusive relationship and ended up in Peaceful Harbor. She works at the bar with Diesel of the Dark Knights.
Diesel is a restless, brooding soul and stays to himself most of the time. He always ready to head for the open road. Sometimes he will go to visit The Whiskeys in Colorado at the Redemption Ranch.
Tracy and Diesel both have family issues. Diesel mom passed away without telling him who his father was. He always felt empty, lost. Even though the Whiskeys embraced him, it really never felt like home.
Tracey was always afraid to go home to her mom. Tracey felt guilty and ashamed that she didnt listen to her mother about her abusive boyfriend. Tracy tried to contact her mom, but she moved away and changed her phone number. She felt lost and abandoned.
Tracey and Diesel connection is like a time bomb, when finally they get together its explosive, hot and steamy.
Melissa Foster stories are emotional, all about family, love and forgiveness.
Savannah Peachwood and Jacob Morgan are wonderful narrators.
They bring depth to each character. I can feel each moment of emotion, anguish, anger, torment, throughout the story.

Tracy and Diesel are a great pair

The Dark Knights is a grittier, edgier Melissa Foster series, but they all have the same heart, heat and love that all are Melissa Foster hallmarks. I found Diesel and Tracy's story fascinating from beginning to end. On the surface, Diesel is a gruff, standoffish loner that seems to be a total womanizer. But once you see past the superficial persona and find the real man, he is a passionate, loving, devoted and thoughtful man that doesn't realize what an amazing person he is. Throughout this whole novel, he helps Tracy find who she is, who she wants to be, and gives her the love, support and safe space that she needs to grow into her own. I loved how they loved and supported each other, and how they each were able to be the safe haven the other needed.

Narration by Savannah Peachwood and Jacob Morgan was amazing. They are both fantastic narrators that bring so much emotion and feeling to their work. True voice actors, not just readers.

High in heat!!

Running on Diesel had me by the throat from the start. Tracy is a woman finding her own way. She's lived her life by other people's terms and she's on a quest of self discovery.  She's a strong woman with a bit of fire going on. Diesel, oh Diesal, he has one thing on his mind... sorry, one person on his mind... Tracy. He can't see past this woman. Unfortunately,  he doesn't do women past using them physically. He's got a damaged past and issues all around. Diesel finds his purpose when he saves her one night. Tracy and Diesel find something in each other. What happens when it's time to walk away?

The writing was amazing. The heat level was so intense... these two could have combusted from the mix of Diesel and the fire in Tracy. They had a need for each other that couldn't be fulfilled. Melissa Foster brings us back to characters we've all come to love and enjoy their previous stories.  The narration by Jacob Morgan and Savannah Peachwood was amazing. Morgan brings this big ol' man to life with this deep voice and strong narrative. Peachwood gives Tracy that much needed attitude with her fun and flirty side. Loved it!
