Publisher's summary

Shoveling dragon dung for a living isn't glamorous, but Cayden has dreams of performing as a magic dancer at the summer competitions. Although the dragon races eclipse everything else, Cayden and his small troupe intend to follow their dreams.

At the dragon races, Cayden discovers something worse than losing when he stumbles upon a deadly plot that threatens thousands of lives, including those of his family and friends.

While the dragons race against each other, Cayden must race against time.

a very fun adventure

A lite fantastical romp making it easy to miss the deep themes of the cultural struggles between chaos and order, and how emphasizing one over the other can be disastrous. A fun small cast in a beautiful high fantasy setting with solid plot structure and a satisfying conclusion. Mary Ann Weathers puts in a pitch perfect performance bringing the cute cast to life.

Unique and interesting

Definitely a fascinating story about a unique culture and many memorable characters. A little on the depressing side at times, but life is like that. The characters' resilience and desire to fulfill their dreams make it worth every minute.

To destroy families and create villains.

That seems to be the Moto of the restrictive government in this story. Basically if you are born with magic you are enslaved to the state and have no say in your own life. That's why Kayden hid his magic from the testers. He just wants to dance. To chose his life. but will his selfishness cost everyone else their lives?

Personally they all have it coming. Kayden has no business trying to be a hero. I kind of want to read the next book but only if it's about a revolution overthrowing this atrocity of a system.

Overall great writing that really got to me on a an emotional level. The Narrator was also great infusing her performance with passion and variations in character voices.
