Publisher's summary

I know many things. What I am capable of, what I will change, what I will become. But there is one thing I will never know.

The veil I've worn from birth carries with it a terrible loneliness, a suppression I cannot imagine ever being free of.

Some things never change...

My mother will always hate me. Her court will always shun me.

…until they do.

When the peace delegation arrives from the savage world of Glacium, my life is shoved wildly out of control by the handsome Prince Kedrick, who, for unfathomable reasons, shows me kindness.

And the harshest lessons are learned.

Sometimes it takes the world bringing you to your knees to find that spark you thought forever lost. Sometimes it takes death to show you how to live.

Warning: cliff-hanger ending! Suitable for mature young adult listeners due to swearing.

I wouldn't let my teen listen/read this book

Would you try another book from Kelly St. Clare and/or Amanda Dolan?

I am thinking of getting the second book in this series because I would like to see where the story goes.

Would you be willing to try another book from Kelly St. Clare? Why or why not?

Not sure I would because of the use of rather bad swear words that was not needed.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Olina removes the veil and sees her face for the first time.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Not on the big screen but might on Amazon or Netflix.

Any additional comments?

Parents beware. If you don't allow your children to use bad language or try and limit their exposure to it, don't let them near this book. The use of the f work happens too many times to be overlooked. Before anyone jumps on me about what I am saying please remember that this is how the book hit me and therefore MY opinion of the book.

Full of adventure!

I loved every second of this story! Fantasy of Frost is a story that is an adventurous tale about a young woman destined to be a ruler. Falling in love with the wrong man and taken to a different world has changed everything she has ever known. I love the amount of emotion that Kelly St. Clair is able to draw out of her characters, which makes it easier to connect to the story. I have read the books prior to listening to the audiobook and both are amazing! The narrator does a brilliant job with this book.

Fantastic

Olina is a young naive girl that contradicts herself with how wise and open minded she is. Amanda Dolan did such a great job capturing the spirit and strength of Olina's voice. This is one of my favorite books and it was so much fun listening to it. I didn't loose focus at all, Amanda kept me engaged with her lively voice. Just as Kelly keeps you invested in the story from the very first line. I would recommend this to anyone who loves fantasy. Great book. Great narration. Can't wait to hear more.

I found myself lost in the world's she has created

So I messed up with these books. I read them so fast I didn't get a chance to write my reviews. I finished this book about 11 o'clock at night and immediately bought the next one. That lets you know I was quite interested in what happened next. Unfortunately it also means I'll have to give a simpler review to ensure I don't slip with spoilers.

I'm not sure why this book is listed in the Fantasy genre. There is no magic, no fae, no vamps/weres/mystical creatures or activities. The story does take place on two non-existent planets. But I guess it's Symantecs.

This is apparently a YA series and it's one of a few YA seriesthat have thoroughly enjoyed. This first book introduces us to the hot, fire world of Osiris and the cold snowy world of Glacius. The people of the two hate each other but also need each to balance out their worlds.

The princess of the Fire World wears this veil that hides her face. No one including herself has ever seen her face. That small tidbit was enough for me to want to find out how can someone go 19 years without seeing their own face and why.

I'm proud of the author for being brave in writing on some of the topics she covers. There are some that feel like certain topics are Taboo and could ruin their career.

The author was able to accomplish alot in this first book. You first feel sorry for this seemingly caring princess Olena. Then you become terrified for her as she is forced to flee the world she has known. Then you get to see her at her best and worse. She is strong willed but not perfect. I hate "perfect characters" who do no wrong. Olena is a good character who has her flaws. There are times when I was proud of her and times when she did the most childish things. Which in turn makes her a true perfect character. Yes, that makes sense in my head :-)

One thing thing I noticed is that the author doesn't give you full descriptions of the chsracters. She keeps it simple for the main characters by giving their height, weight, hair and eye color. For the secondary characters you get even less. However, you are able to picture the characters by the speech and actions. I found I liked this. some authors will spend pages describing every inch of each character because they want you only to have their exact image of the character. But when you give just enough I think we can fill in the blanks ourselves and all still come to a similar conclusion.

This book has murder, fighting, royal court life drama, evil Queens, sexual suggestions, child abuse, world building, traitors, abductions, and pretty much everything else to yurn to know what happens next. I needed to know the child abusers were dealt with, I needed to know who Olina might love, I needed to know about this damned veil!!! She hooked me.

I feel things are timed just right. The plot doesn't move too fast or too slow.

The narrator was Amanda Doman. She did a really good job. There are many charters introduced and I had no problem following her. She was able to capture the innocence of the children and the anger of the Ice King.

I couldn't stop listening!

What did you love best about Fantasy of Frost?

I loved the way the author, Kelly St. Clare, had so much to tell. Everytime I had, as a listener of this audiobook, the urge to know something. And when that something was revealed; there was something else I was yearning to find out.The story constantly kept me on the edge of my seat!

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

In the beginning, I had a little difficulty with the narration, perhaps as this was my first audiobook (in English, my mother tongue is Dutch). But after a couple of chapters, I really got comfortable with the narrator and her calm voice was a good start of a relaxing end of my day, with the audiobook.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Living a veiled life can have many disadvantages. But when you're the main charachter in this book; iyou learn how to turn those disadvantages into advantages and mystery.

Any additional comments?

I can't wait to read/listen to the second part of this sequel!

Wow!

4.5*s

*Audio copy of book was received in exchange for an honest review*

First I need to say, I'm not usually a fan of YA stories, or fantasy but after reading the blurb, I was intrigued. Boy, am I glad I listened to my instincts here. I really enjoyed the book. The characters are genuine and not as far fetched as they could have been.

Lena is a girl, well a princess, the tatuma of her world who is put in a bind when she falls for the prince of the other realm. That is offset by tragedy and then, as if life doesn't suck enough, she's taken prisoner.

That status doesn't take long to change though. She grows on the people around her, even becomes friends with them, all while keeping up a vigilant watch out for a killer, and trying to keep herself out of harms way.

The poor girl has been burdened with the task of staying hidden and not knowing exactly who she is for so long that once the time comes to unveil herself, she all but falls apart. That resolves into her need for answers. A trail is set upon to find answers which will take her from the comforts she has become accustomed to.... and lead her into a path of unknown consequences.

Someone went Shopping

All the reviews keep saying this is a blatant rip off of From Blood and Ash but this came out 3 years BEFORE FBAA so perhaps it’s the other way around? It was poorly written regardless

Great Start to a Great Series

What made the experience of listening to Fantasy of Frost the most enjoyable?

The Characters and World building.

What other book might you compare Fantasy of Frost to, and why?

The Name of the Wind...because the characters are variable, adaptable and developing, the writing and emotions are adult not juvenile

Have you listened to any of Amanda Dolan’s other performances? How does this one compare?

This is the first time I've heard Amanda's narration and was impressed.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, because I couldn't wait to hear what happened next.

Any additional comments?

A story of trying to find acceptance, well written, well narrated and a series I will listen to again and again.

Slightly painful - 2.5 Stars

I really wanted to enjoy this, and to be fair it starts off pretty well! But it just does not land for me. Maybe it would be better in the "read" format, as opposed to audio, as the writing style is a bit jarring. Seems like every sentence starts with I. I thought, I did, I am... and on and on. And there are rarely contractions (everything is "it is" as opposed to "it's") which ends up sounding oddly formal.
The storyline itself is alright, but I found the big reveal a bit of a let-down. And just generally weird things happen, like the King (an autocratic wanker who we're supposed to be attracted to) stops musicians in the middle of a performance at a ball to show the MC their instruments. Because music doesn't exist where she is from. And she tries to play them in front of everything, At this ball. In the middle of it. OH and this was a ball she didn't want to go to, but showed up to in her pajamas, decides she wants to see what's happening (but doesn't want to draw attention to herself) and ends up butchering guitar playing in front of EVERYONE like it ain't no thang.
No. Just no.
The whole thing has a very "high school" vibe to it. If that's your thing, then go for it! But it's a no-go for me.

Hooked from beginning to end.

Where does Fantasy of Frost rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

If I'm completely honest this is the first audiobook I have listened to but I adore the series and thoroughly enjoyed listening to it walking to work, at the gym, making dinner and so on and so forth. I struggled to get passed the accent of the narrator at first (especially when it came to the swearwords) but I was captivated by the story line from the beginning to the end. This is not just the best audiobook I have come across but also one of the best fantasy series I have read to date.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Olina is my favorite character because her inner strength is incredible. She is courageous, kind and simply bad ass.

Which character – as performed by Amanda Dolan – was your favourite?

I feel as though Sanjay deserves a special mention. Every book needs a Sanjay.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

This question is ridiculously hard. I cant come up with anything that would do the book justice.
