Publisher's Summary

Everything I know is a lie.

I'm an ordinary mortal girl. Lord Irrik is a depraved dragon shifter. King Irdelron is an immortal tyrant. In the disease ridden land of Verald, life is mapped out much like the established rings of our kingdom. Everyone has a role.... Me? I'll be uselessly serving potato stew for the rest of my life because I can't make anything grow.

But starvation brews rebellion. When the king strikes, I'm captured by Lord Irrik. Instantly, I'm embroiled in a deadly game. One where I'm desperate to understand the rules. Because nothing makes sense anymore. Now, I'm not only fighting for my life...but a love could be the key to my freedom.

What if the truth means you're not who - or what - you thought you were?

Fans of dark fantasy, dragons, intrigue, and romance will devour this story. Due to thematic elements, this series is recommended for mature YA and up.

Wow!

I purchased this book a while back but hadn’t read it yet. When I saw that the audiobook was out I purchased it. This story is fantastic. I loved it. Sierra Kline has added something more to it with her character voices. I hope the rest of the series is also performed by her. Her voice is wonderful. Thank you both for this adventure.

Great story. Good writing. Great Narration.

So much better than I expected. Brilliant story left much more to come in the next in the series. I have to admit one of the twists was quite obvious throughout the book but there were still some surprises. Really enjoyed the narrator as well.

love the story...narration eeeh

I have the e-book and loved but the narration is terrible. It's like listening to someone narrate while sitting on a washing machine. I understand she's trying to convey emotion but it's a bit too much.

I definitely guessed the ending at the beginning 😂

I’m pretty sure the ending was suppose to be like “😮 WHATTTT!?!?” Welp, i thought it was pretty darn predictable. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the story.

Btw, the narrator and the heroine also annoyed me.

Loved the narration and the story

The story was amazing and unlike anything I've read/listened to so far. It was unique and interesting and the narration only helped tie all of that together perfectly. (Thank you, Sierra Kline, truly!)

Excellent Writing and Performance, Dark Story

The writing and performance of this book were excellent. However, for this to be labeled a YA book is wrong. The torture is explicit and the plot line extremely dark. The main character can't seem to catch a break with anything, everything that gives her the smallest pleasure is taken away. I was also disgusted with the detail that the main guy in the story was forced to sire hundreds of half breed soldiers. This is something I think the plot could have done without. However, I do hope audible releases the next book. I am hoping as the group seeks their revenge the morbidness they've endured will make me feel some closure. The ending of the book does not provide enough closure, it really is one big book prepping you for the next installation of the series.

Great story, just lose the narrator’s shakey voice

I really enjoyed so much about this, but the narrator tries to convey how fearful the protagonist is (apparently ALL of the time) by forcing an obnoxious shake to her voice. (Her voice is good otherwise)

I hate that I’m letting it bother me so much; it’s just so distracting.

Turned it to double speed and that seemed to help me get around it...mostly.

Horrible Narration

I’ve read the the series and loved it. I couldn’t stand the audio version. The narrator made Ryn sound like she was talking while traveling on a bumpy road. So much voice quavering. No really the quavering never stopped. Well unless Irrick was speaking, then things got worse.

Irrick’s voice sounded like a stereotype of a hated teacher; nasally, prim, and clipped. (He’s a dragon for goodness sake...how could you read his voice like that!)

I hung in there because of the story and kept hoping the narrator would settle in and capture the essence of the characters, but alas, that was not to be.

If you haven’t read the books, please don’t start with the audio version. It’s a really good story don’t allow this version to ruin it for you.

Looking forward to the next installment

I enjoyed this book very much looking forward to the next book. I didn’t like how whinny the lead female was but it seem she got less whinny at the end so I have high hopes for the next book 💜

Is there an audio for book 2?

I really enjoyed this book. The beginning dragged for me and it took me 3 days to actually pick it up, but once the book took off, I hella enjoyed all of it! I liked how there was not instant romance between the two main characters.

I really want to listen to book 2 but it's not on audible *cries in drae* hopefully it comes out in the future.
