Fun story; terrible narration

This is a fun series of novellas for any age. I mean, who doesn't love dragons? I love the basic story here, and I like the main protagonist and her interesting collection of friends and allies, but it took effort for me to get past the terrible narration and stay immersed in the story. It sounded as if the narrator was reading this book for the first time, aloud, and she was not good. This was more than 11 hours of: misspoken words (I'm still not sure if one particular character is male, female, or perhaps both); terribly done, inconsistent character voices; poor cadence; and her mispronunciations are so bad that every time she says the word "crutch" I hear "crotch." I'm probably going to just read the next 15 installments.

Interesting Enough

2.5 stars

The story itself got 3.5 stars. It was written fairly well and I admit to be caught by the story line. Highly likely I'll at least get the next installment in the series (episodes 6-10) at least but I was not impressed by the narration and rated the performance with 1 star. So more than likely I'll get the ebook and read rather than listen to the audiobook.

Love these books

I've been listening to this set of books in my car along with my kids. We love them. They need to be listened to in order because the stories build on each other and if you try to start in the middle of the series, you will wi be lost. Amel is a cripple and is determined to become a dragon rider. Her determination and strength is amazing. I love Reolkin (sorry if I misspell names, I'm listening to the audiobooks). Her dragon is absolutely amazing. Their minds connect unlike any of the others in her class and it is magical.
Unfortunately for her, Dragon School has to go through a significant change in a short amount of time and she is tossed into the deep end before she's ready. There is so much that happens in these first five books that I couldn't say too much without giving things away. I will say the author has surprised me with Amel's ailment and not magically fixing it immediately, which is what I expected. Rather it is an integral part of the story and how she has to overcome it is amazing. If at some point, the ailment is fixed, great but I think the author has done a great job with not taking the easy way out from the start.
I do love the romantic spark the author has put in here. There is always a mystery or a question of loyalty and I love that Amel is determined to do right and not let others sway her concept of right and wrong. She wants to understand things and not just be lead around like a child. She grew and changed a lot in these first stories and we've already started the second set so I cannot wait to see where the author takes all of the characters I've grown to love!
It's a 5/5 for me. My children (ages 5, 10, and 11) ask for the book to be turned on immediately when we get into the car and I love sharing these stories with them.

Thank you to the author for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

Loved these books.....

Books 1-5 - I LOVED these books....

They had me at Dragons.... then a purple Dragon just made my day!!!

The fact that the main character, Amel, has a disability and doesn't let it slow her down is awe inspiring.

Fun start

Do you dare to join this school and learn how to fly? Are you up for the danger or adventure? If you are then this omnibus will be a lot of fun for you to listen to. I loved that the FMC wasn't a typical main character. She also had so much heart and strength. She wasn't perfect by any means but she worked hard and tried her best. Amel has always dreamed of being able to fly on a dragon and she goes after her dream. She didn't let others hold her back from her dreams. All the students assume she will die in her first flight so none of them really bother to befriend her. I didn't like all the people treating her like crap just because she had a disability. But I loved how as the story progressed she made true friends but she also had to figure out who she could truly trust. I don't want to say to o much for worry of giving spoilers but this series is so good! A must listen to!

A New Type of Heroine

I absolutely loved listening to this book . Amel has a disability and has to work harder than everyone else to achieve her dream . It truly touched my heart hearing how she had to wake up so much earlier than everyone else in order to be on time . The bond between Amel and her Dragon is beautiful .

It Sucks

I'm sorry but the person reading is not doing these books justice. She couldn't do any different voices. The whole time she reads it sounds like she is eating. I wish I could get my money back.

Struggled to finish

intrigued by storyline, characters and dragon antics. Very disappointed by narrator with failure to differentiate character voices and monotone descriptions. Will not continue this series.

Missing a lot of detail

It seemed like the author hadn’t mapped out her world building ahead of time and couldn’t make up her mind as the story progressed. She didn’t develop side characters well and the story was lacking in understanding of human behavior.

You will fall in love with a dragon

Book 1- This one introduced a whole new world! I emphasize with the main character as I too have a bad leg! I can’t wait to see her overcome everything Book 2- this book gives us more questions than answers! But now I need to know what happens next so book 3 here I come! Book 3- this one is my favorite so far! More action, a bit of Romance and then you are hooked for book 4! Book 4- the more i listen to these books the more I love the dragons personality!! I enjoy the story line on this 1! Book 5- this one gives you more mystery and more want! I can’t wait to see what happens next!

good book

good story, shame about the wooden "narrator ". she reads, rather than narrates, with a strong american accent, hard to understand at times.

heading

I really enjoyed these 5 episodes. The narrator wasn't boring and tried to make the reading have light and shade
