Publisher's Summary

The reality behind reality TV! Hollywood's favorite mom-star tells it like it is.

Tori Spelling is the first to admit that the "reality" behind her popular television show, Tori & Dean, isn't always real. Not even Star magazine could invent the true chaos that happens behind the scenes. Luckily, Tori is famously honest and self-deprecatingly funny when it comes to her personal life - she's always "Spelling it like it is". Life is never boring at Tori's house, but since the release of her New York Times best-selling memoirs sTORI Telling, Mommywood, and Uncharted terriTORI, things have been especially unpredictable:

  • Finding out she was pregnant with her third baby after nearly vomiting live on the Home Shopping Network
  • Trying to hide her fourth pregnancy so soon after giving birth (as her stylist said, "Who would be that crazy?")
  • Being rescued from a paparazzo by a mom lynch mob
  • Stalking her celebrity neighbor
And then there was allowing cameras to film every personal detail of her life - from the most challenging time in her marriage to the only time in six years when she really felt as though those cameras invaded her privacy. Tori shares these stories and many more with the usual humor, candor, and down-to-earth charm that her fans love. She also writes openly about her biggest challenges: terrifying health problems; her guilt over missing baby Hattie's early months because she was in the hospital on bed rest; her struggles (and failures) to live within her means after growing up in opulence; the discovery that she has a lot in common with her late mega-producer father, Aaron Spelling; and how she fell in love with Dean all over again. (Hint: it didn't happen at their vow-renewal ceremony.)

After years of revealing her everyday antics on-screen, Tori's life is still full of surprises. Slowing down long enough to enjoy them? Now that's another sTORI.

Guilty Pleasure

Yes, I will admit that I am a closet Tori Spelling fan--she is so funny and insightful. I've listened to her other books and always loved the way she relates her stories even if they don't paint her in the best light. This book was especially interesting in light of her current woes.

Disappointed

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I wanted to like this book and Tori. I was hoping the 4 star review average was accurate, but I have to disagree. I think people who have been pregnant multiple times and are full time mom's might enjoy this book more than me.

Has Spelling It Like It Is turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, i love celebrity memoirs.

How could the performance have been better?

I wish she wouldn't have discussed her pregnancies problems, hospital visits and bodily fluids over and over again. It was WAY TOO much for me. It made me think she was a hypochondriac needing attention from her family and her fans.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Spelling It Like It Is?

The hospital visits!!!

Any additional comments?

I'm sure Tori is a good person, I just didn't vibe with her story.

I Spell Opportunist: T O R I S P E L L I N G

Phew... where to start!?

I’m sure it happened before I read this book, but I have officially had my fill of Tori & Dean. This will be the only $$ I ever put in their pockets and the last time I will invest any of my time in them. The one-two punch of this book, combined with True Tori left me feeling used and stupid.

My positive takeaway:
I appreciate Tori’s narration, writing and storytelling – she is gifted.

On to the rest:
Tori reveals herself as someone who is willing to sell her and her family’s souls to earn another dollar… so she can buy another animal to add to her hoard, lose millions on impulsive real estate purchases and failed retail endeavors. I guess it is disturbing for a conservative person who has worked hard all of her life (me) to listen to Tori whine about not having exactly what she wants, when she wants it (ultimately she’ll manipulate until she gets it). Tori needs extensive therapy for her unyielding impulsivity and abandonment issues (likely thanks to her emotionally detached mother and the loss of her doting father). Dean needs to: a) grow a backbone and explain to his wife that she is single-handedly jeopardizing her entire family’s financial & psychological future, b) stop impregnating her and c) end his extracurricular activities.

I can’t help but consider some or all of this book’s contents were manufactured for another money-grab. Tori goes into great lengths to explain how she ‘creates’ storylines for her “reality” shows and her intricate staging. In the event there is a real life scenario that she wishes was filmed, she’ll recreate it as soon as she can get the cameras back. There is truly NOTHING sacred.

I’m going to take a shower.

As usual, very cute and fun

Would you consider the audio edition of Spelling It Like It Is to be better than the print version?

Yes, I like hearing her read it in order to know exactly the tone she was going for.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Spelling It Like It Is?

Liam telling a woman he doesn't like it when Stella's pussy gets red.

Which character – as performed by Tori Spelling – was your favorite?

Tori, obviously

Any additional comments?

The only thing that irks me is when she says she has money problems when clearly she still has far more money than the average person. She is far from middle class and even in the worst of problems was spending plenty of money.

Wonderful book

I love all of Tori's books and this one lives up to expectations. She is a great story teller, like her father. And she is witty and funny. Loved the part about the pet pig sleeping in bed with them. I was really laughing. She is leading an extraordinary life. The book held my interest and is a fun listen.

She's very brave!

I loved this book. I watched all of the shows she talked about and was really nice that she narrated her book. Was very personalized. It felt like she just sat down and just you two we're talking. Great one. I will be reading her other books! Thank you Tori for allowing us in your life.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Liam is asked how he likes his baby sister. Just shows you how real she really is!

Tori is endearing

Tori has a sensitivity that makes her slant on Hollywood easier to empathise with her.
