Publisher's summary

Set 300 years after the events of Alien: Out of the Shadows and Alien: River of Pain, Alien: Sea of Sorrows deals with the rediscovery of dormant Xenomorphs (Aliens) in the abandoned mines of LV-178, the planetoid from Alien: Out of the Shadows, which has now been terraformed and renamed New Galveston.

The Weyland-Yutani Corporation, reformed after the collapse of the United Systems Military, continue their unceasing efforts to weaponise the creatures, eliciting the help of Alan Decker, who is forced to join a team of mercenaries sent to investigate an ancient excavation lurking deep beneath the planet's toxic desert, dubbed the Sea of Sorrows.

Somewhere in that long-forgotten dig lies the thing the company wants most in the universe - a living Xenomorph. Decker doesn't understand why the company needs him until his genetic heritage comes back to haunt him. Centuries ago one of his ancestors fought the Aliens, launching a bloody vendetta that was never satisfied. That was when the creatures swore revenge on his forbear, 'the Destroyer', Ellen Ripley...and all her descendants.

This terrifying, cinematic multicast dramatisation - directed by the multiaward-winning Dirk Maggs, best known for his adaptations of Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere for the BBC - is the sequel to Audible Originals' Alien: Out of the Shadows (nominated for Best Audio Drama at the 2017 Audies) and Alien: River of Pain.

Full cast: Tom Alexander, Mark Arnold, Sagar Arya, Pippa Bennett-Warner, Laurence Bouvard, Philip Bullcock, John Chancer, Stockard Channing, Cedric Cirotteau, Simon Darwen, Andrea Deck, Oris Erhuero, Tony Gardner, Walles Hamonde, Andrew James Spooner, Lorelei King, Tayla Kovacevic Ebong, Laurel Lefkow, Sandra-Mae Luyck, Theo Maggs, Alan Marriott, Gary Martin, Pauline Mclynn, Eric Meyers, Naoko Mori, Sarah Pitard, Kerry Shale, Thomas Stroppell, Emma Swan, Martin T Sherman, Steve Toussaint and Ryan Wichert.

just okay, not as impressed

Actors were awsome, but story was just so so. Not as impressed as the first 2 books.

A riveting listen (light spoilers)

These additions are made for narration. Dialogue and sound effects bring the story to life in ways a reading simply cannot. Great levels of tension and suspense are built into the dialogue and brought to life by the voice actors. Though the storyline isn't anything new, it was never dull. My only complaint is that the last 2 chapters seemed very hasty and incomplete; so much build up and numerous possible story branches opened in the first 8 chapters, only to leave a lot of story left unexplored/unwritten due to a very quick wind down in the last 2 chapters. Overall an excellent addition to the series, well worth a listen.

Nice. Riveting. Want more.

If you like the franchise this will hold you over. better than both of the recent movie entries. This medium is awesome. Your mind and imagination collide in cinematic illusion created by the first movies and childhood nightmares. The queen is back. Don't miss this. The trilogy is worth starting from Out of the shadows.
Please keep up the hard work. This has honestly made a audible membership worth every dime.

very good

in the aliens mythos this works very well it's strung together a bunch of the previous movies as well as slight references to the engineers.
although the esper sense granted to the descendant really doesn't ty and so much unless of course you're talkin about the continuation of the Ellen Ripley clone.

Finally consistent action if listening in Alien universe order Book 5

I liked that there was more consistent action and intensity in this story. The setting was described well and the twists were surprising to me knowing that most will die when Aliens are present.

Tropey But Entertaining

This Audible original full cast performance was another great experience and I'm glad that I picked up the entire trilogy of titles. This book makes a modest effort to wean us away from the Ripley legacy by focusing instead on an apparent descendant who has empathic abilities that may help him locate the Aliens when in close proximity. This mission has all the tropes of pretty much every other Alien story including corporate greed, space marines and characters you can't really trust. But that's all part and parcel when it comes to this universe and it makes for a fun listening experience.

Earhugging enjoyment

Instead of a face hugger this rendition grabs you like only a xenomorph can and doesn't let go til the very end. I found this a nice addition to the series of Alien audible books. Even though some twists are predictable and cookie cutter from the other books it's still reaches in and grabs you. If you're a fan of the genre you won't be let down. I found I didn't want it to end and I'm hoping they do another one soon so we can find out if the company screws up and leads them to earth.
