Publisher's summary
From the bestselling author of Beyond the Moonlit Sea comes an atmospheric tale of how one woman’s search for the truth uncovers long-hidden secrets and rocks the very foundation of her world.
Scarlett Fontaine is a true Hollywood legend—a singer, actress, and beloved fashion icon. But Scarlett dies tragically at just thirty-six years old, leaving behind no children. Or so the story goes…
Gwen Hollingsworth is the curator at a museum dedicated to Scarlett’s life. She’s also sole heir to Scarlett’s fortune as a descendant of the star. But all is not well in Gwen’s world. She’s dealing with a messy marital separation and is struggling to move forward. So when Peter Miller, a biographer and photojournalist, comes to the museum with shocking claims about Scarlett—a life of exile in Alaska, a baby born in secret—Gwen’s whole world is turned upside down. Again.
Determined to uncover the truth, Gwen and Peter set out for Alaska together but soon find themselves on a path toward something far deeper and more meaningful than either of them ever expected.
A Storm of Infinite Beauty takes readers on a breathtaking journey from a lush vineyard in Nova Scotia to a rustic lodge in Alaska where old family secrets are revealed and the quest for true happiness begins.
Critic reviews
“January LaVoy gives Canadian author Julianne MacLean's compelling historical novel an expert performance.… As Gwen and Peter investigate Scarlett's life and two intriguing timelines unfold, LaVoy makes the characters and events fully believable. Her authenticity and understatement combined with just the right intensity and poignancy make this well-researched historical novel come alive.” —AudioFile Magazine, Earphones Award Winner
“Told using two equally captivating timelines and with elements of romance, this is a gripping and addictive read.” —Library Journal (starred review)
“MacLean’s masterful storytelling captures the essence of resilience, love, and the power of revealing hidden truths, leaving readers captivated and yearning for more. With evocative descriptions and deeply resonating characters, this novel showcases MacLean’s prowess as a writer, delivering a compelling tribute to the human spirit.” —Booklist

Sure, it's romantic up amidst the snow-capped peaks of Wyoming's Grand Teton Mountains, but Hanna Alexander has only one thing on her mind: trying to save the family lodge. That is, she did - right up until she hired mountain-guide Micah Gallagher to help raise revenues. Teeming with suspicion and intrigue, this Grand Teton adventure leaves listeners struggling with the Christian principle of forgiveness in the face of emotional entanglements, fears of the heart, and the inevitable agony of love.

Story
Secrets and lies can’t stay buried forever in Cedar Valley. In the summer, hikers and campers pack the small Colorado town’s meadows and fields. And in the winter, skiers and snowboarders take over the mountains. Season by season, year after year, time passes, and the lies, like the aspens and evergreens that surround the town, take root and spread deep. Now, someone has uncovered the lies, and it is his murder that continues a chain of events that began almost 40 years ago.

Secrets of a loved one
The secret was not what I expected. Could Scarlett Fontaine have left behind a treasure in Alaska? Enjoyed the narrators and how the story unfolds. The descriptions of the landscape and nature was captivating. Would love to visit Alaska for the Northern lights.

Life may have other plans for you...
The most memorable moments were of the 1963 Alaska earthquake. I don't remember ever hearing about it as I grew up, but it must have been traumatic. I believe the relationship between h & Eric could be just as confusing as it was written, though it was so difficult to see him so emotionally crippled that he couldn't even face difficult things in his life. I could also believe that the h & writer could develop a sincere & peaceful love through their similar interests & attraction. And I found the backstory of Valerie & Drew to have an interesting ending.

Great story line!
I really enjoyed this book.
It’s a different kind of love story told in the past and then the present alternating chapters.
I really loved the history and the beauty told in words of what Alaska was and is like then and now.

Today is December 1, 2023. This book is by far the BEST BOOK I'VE READ ALL YEAR!!!
Ms MacLean is my favorite author! I've read all her books and I love her writing skills. She knows how to keep the suspense alive and tug at your emotions all the way to the end of her story. I can't wait for her next story to come out@
