On a continent where riders build kingdoms, she breaks them to build empires.
Realm-Building is open to all. On the continent of Elondria, anyone may become the next legendary dragon rider by building the greatest towns, cities, and even kingdoms.
Skálda Branwright dreams of leaving the Longcold and becoming the first Dragonlord to build an official realm. Only no dragon egg has ever hatched for her.
When a hatchling falls to her from another world, begging for rescue, she must decide whether to surrender her dragon to death or become the worst criminal of all—a rogue rider.
But this is no ordinary dragon. By the time Skálda realizes what she holds in her hands, it is much too late.
Stealing this hatchling will come at a steep cost—breaking the republic she is sworn to serve... and eliminating the elf that created the rules for Realm-Building. The same war machine that manufactures humans into riders to serve the elves.
A Queen will rise out of blood and dragonfire... and this is how it begins.
Includes A Quest of Rangers, a novella in the Realm Breaker series.

Beyond our main protagonist, Young also gives us a well-devised grouchy elven ranger whose motivations remain murky but considerably better than the sociopathic elves on the hunt for humans who refuse to do their bidding. I would happily read a story featuring just him, which says a lot about the quality of the side characters!
And lastly, an oft-overlooked aspect to this difficult craft is pacing, which is another strength Young puts on full display here, allowing everything else to shine in the best way possible. There were several well-timed reveals of lore, as well as personal anecdotes that reveal hidden motivations, or connect major points of intrigue in ways that reward the patient, attentive reader. Things like that, when done right, are the difference between good and excellent. A Breaking of Realms strikes excellence square in the face with a flaming fire iron. Much to mine and everyone else’s delight, there remains much more story to tell! I can’t wait to see Skálda’s, Bale’s, and even Aesir’s growth in subsequent volumes.
A Breaking of Realms has proven that dragon fantasies still have plenty of fresh fire to breathe.
Also, the dual narration was flawless.
Intense, refreshing, and downright excellent!

However, I’m honestly shocked that a female author wrote this book. There’s a huge problem in fantasy writing right now with male fantasy authors posing as women to try and capitalize on this audience - and when my friend and I tried to do a deep dive on this author…I’m not convinced she’s a real person. We both struggle to decide whether the writing feels like ChatGPT assisted or fanfiction. With each subsequent book it reads more and more like AI writing.
Dry. Dull. Absolutely no depth. Battle sequences written like a 14 year old boy’s gory video game fanfiction.
There is absolutely no character development. The story gives you no reason to care about why any of the characters are doing anything. The male characters especially lack any emotional maturity, believable flaws, redemption arcs, or depth. I love a flawed character, but it really does feel like a book full of edge-lords.
So many of the different factions and cultures in the book are just NOT explained. EVER. The biggest tip off is that there are so many lore details that contradict each other. Example: several times high elves were referenced as being a lower caste to the ruling class of elves, but then referenced several times as the elite caste themselves…? There are more contradictions than just this, which is a common issue with AI writing.
The “romance” in this book has the depth of a pebble. Seriously this reads like a 14-year-old boy fanfiction, I can’t say it enough. The FMC is a Daenerys rip off with a Pick Me spin. With each book it gets worse and worse. I finally had to DNF at book 3.
