Every harvest moon, the Witch Collector rides into our valley and leads one of us to the home of the immortal Frost King, to remain forever.

Today is that day—Collecting Day.

But he will not come for me. I, Raina Bloodgood, have lived in this village for twenty-four years, and for all that time he has passed me by.

His mistake.

Raina Bloodgood has one desire: kill the Frost King and the Witch Collector who stole her sister. On Collecting Day, she means to exact murderous revenge, but a more sinister threat sets fire to her world. Rising from the ashes is the Collector, Alexus Thibault, the man she vowed to slay and the only person who can help save her sister.

Thrust into an age-old story of ice, fire, and ancient gods, Raina must abandon vengeance and aid the Witch Collector or let their empire—and her sister—fall into enemy hands. But the lines between good and evil blur, and Raina has more to lose than she imagined. What is she to do when the Witch Collector is no longer the villain who stole her sister, but the hero who's stealing her heart?

Overall just blah. The story needing more world building. Felt rushed and just borrrringggg over all. Like the whole story they were stuck in the woods? Something else needed to happen. Pretty predictable, no great twist. Had potential just missed the mark. Narrators were great though.

Boring story, good narration

I read The Witch Collector at the beginning of 2022 but wanted to refresh my memory before I carried on with the series. The narrators nailed the banter between Alexus and Raina.

Worth the wait!

This book was fantastic, incredibly imaginative, and had a great storyline. The hopelessness that the characters felt in the beginning and the growth and courage they show at the end was magic to see as the story unfolded. Can't wait to start the next book!

This is an epic journey. So many books in this genera are all about easy answers and no development.

This one is about a story and how you get there and what you learn along the way. It's well done. It rolls out slowly, but the emotion and development are lovely.

I can't say enough good things about this series and The Witch Collector audio. Listening to the audio, on second read, brought the characters to life, and I fell in love with them and the story all over. I cannot wait for the 4th book and future audio.

I am enthralled with this world

This is my second time reading this book. I wanted to start book two but feel like I forgot what happened in book one, and now I’m remembering that it wasn’t a whole lot lol. This book was very slow, and the only reason I’m wanting to continue onto book two is because I’ve heard it gets much better. I decided to listen to the audiobook for my reread, and while the narration was okay, I couldn’t stand when the female narrator would do Alexis’s voice. She spoke way too low/quiet compared to how she voiced everyone else and I had to keep adjusting my volume which was kind of annoying. I’m not sure how much more difficult it is to record, but I wish that books that have two narrators would just do a duet narration, it would be much more enjoyable. I purchased the audio for book two, but I’m not sure if I’ll listen to it or just read it myself.

An Okay Start

The story is good, female narrator is bad, she is weirdly changing her reading speed, from fast to slow and reading some dialogues like a robot!!!

Bad female narrator

Yes, the FMC is rebellious and stubborn. Yes, the good girl is attracted to the bad boy. It’s very slow burn and predictable, but enjoyable. I loved how the FMC represented her demographic; that was splendid.

Predictable but enjoyable

This book is full of fantasy, secrets, magic, and old lore. The main character is deaf, and if that’s not a sign you should read this book then take my suggestion to heart and do it!

The plan to kidnap and kill the witch collector, turns sideways when the village is attacked by an oppressing ruler. His path of vengeance and ruin leaves everyone dead except for the two. They travel to save the king but are caught in a trap laid for the prince’s men. Unable to find their way out, they fight to death and back. When captured by the prince’s men, she is forced to heal his army, but before beginning that task- the Neri, king of wolves saves the day. Battle ensues and in hopes of saving her sister she throws herself into the shadow world. She has to choose to save her sister or the king, and when the chaos recedes, the aftermath is Grim. After learning her life is tethered to the with collector, they decide to try to find their king and save him. Through scrying, she sees her friends that were previously said to be not alive, alive and walking towards the village.

My question is, if these people are supposed to be dead, how are they alive? Or at the very least, is what she seeing real? Is her power now letting her see the undead after her trip to the shadow world?

Loved it
